Norman Arthur Pierce of Darien passed away of natural causes on July 1, 2020. He was 85.

Charles Ferris “Chick” Scribner, a lifelong resident of Darien, died peacefully at his home on Saturday, June 27. He was 96.
Darien police have longstanding policies that already meet some of the calls for policing reforms since the death of George Floyd, First Selectman Jayme Stevenson said in an online talk given Tuesday morning.
Police officials have had discussions with leaders of a Black Lives Matter march in town, and more are expected, she said. Public discussions and events organized by town groups are also expected, she said. But Stevenson said she’s concerned about the lack of respect in some of the discussions she’s heard in town about issues of race and police brutality.
“We all have a lot to learn,” Stevenson said. “And I would just like to ask all of you to be respectful, to listen to others viewpoints on things.
“I’m distressed to see the degradation of dialogue that’s happening around this particular issue in our community right now, and I think we have a great opportunity to be the awesome community that we are by listening to everyone and educating ourselves and making sure that the changes that come reflect the values that we all hold dear here in our town.” Stevenson didn’t elaborate further about the degraded dialogue.

Two online “community conversations” for parents, together titled “Current State of Affairs: Institutional Racism & Real Talk,” and sponsored by Darien organizations, will take place next week.
Each one for parents of children in different age groups. Each conversation will be hosted on Zoom from 6 to 7:30 p.m. ‚ on June 23, 2020 for parents with children ages birth to 10 and on June 24 for parents of children ages 11 and up.
During a weekly press briefing on COVID-19 via Zoom with leaders of the Yale New Haven Health System, which includes Greenwich Hospital, COO Marna Borgstrom said she was proud of Connecticut for having a trajectory other states envy.
