The Swap Shop at the Darien Transfer Station and Recycling Center is opening Monday for the first time since the pandemic closed it, town officials have announced, and they’ve explained why the shop won’t be open on Saturdays yet.
While skiing with his brother in Vermont on Saturday, Feb. 29, Andrew Hyrb, 36, an experienced skier from Darien, became lost and fell from a cliff, Vermont state police said. Hyrb succumbed to his injuries.

Darien Public Schools district officials are reviewing ways to provide remote teaching to students if schools have to be closed because of the COVID-19 virus, and “special attention” is being paid to wiping down surfaces frequently touched by people in schools, officials said in a letter to parents on Friday.
Dr. William Christie Tuthill, a retired veterinarian and avid outdoor adventurer who was known affectionately by his friends as “Wild Bill,” died of natural causes on Feb. 8, 2020 while kiteboarding in La Ventana, Mexico. He was 70 years old.

Greenwich Police are asking the public for help in identifying a woman they say entered two separate branches of the same local bank on Wednesday, Feb 12 and tried to obtain information from an account that was not hers by using a fraudulent government identification.
When a 57-year-old man refused to pay his bill at a downtown Darien restaurant Friday night, police said, the dispute eventually led to the man kicking a police officer in the groin, getting arrested and returning to the restaurant to get his lost wallet — resulting in another argument, violence, call to police and charges.
