Ruth Halford of Darien passed away peacefully Oct. 22 at Geer Nursing and Rehabilitation in Canaan. She was born in Delson, Quebec, daughter of the late Reverend Winter and Edith LeCras. She was predeceased by her husband of over 50 years, C. Norman Halford, and is survived by two children, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was also predeceased by her two sisters, Marion (Lea) Read and Hazel (Gordon) Baines.

Geraldine Harrington Woods, a much loved long-time resident of Darien, passed away peacefully on Oct. 22 at the age of 92. Gerry was predeceased by her husband, Robert Evans Woods, who passed away May 30, 2017. Gerry was renowned for her beauty, intelligence, open-mindedness, wit and style. As the perpetual belle of the ball, she entertained with great charm.

Ralph Eugene Hoffmann, age 86, of The Villages, Florida passed away on Saturday, Oct 6. He was born in New York City on April 24, 1932 and grew up in Mineola, New York, where he graduated from Mineola High School in 1950. Ralph served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean Conflict, where he participated at the landing in Inchon and later fought in the battle of the Chosin Reservoir. During this time he was awarded the Purple Heart. He also served 25 years in the U.S. Marine Corp Reserves, where he retired as a master gunnery sergeant.

Let it be known that she didn’t lose this fight, rather she ran towards the battle, living her life in technicolor and with a ferocity that of a Spartan warrior. Allison was born on May 10, 1970 to Ann Wood Barton.

Melinda Lee Young, age 73, of Sarasota, Florida, and a long-time resident of Darien, passed away peacefully on Oct. 17. Melinda was born Nov. 22, 1944, in Bayside, Queens, New York to Dr. Marcus Lee and Genevieve Lee. She was a graduate of Bayside High School and Mount Ida College in Newton, Massachusetts.

Owen Fitzsimons Brice, 64, beloved fiancé of Stacey Sippel, died Oct. 15, at his home in Pawleys Island. Owen was born in Durham, North Carolina on April 1, 1954, a son of Margaret Fitzsimons Brice and George W. Brice, Jr. M.D. of Charlotte, North Carolina. The Brice family moved to Darien in 1961, and Owen graduated from Darien High School in 1972. He attended Duke University and graduated from the University of South Carolina in Columbia in 1977.

Ann Bromley Miller, previously known as Ann Bromley Jennings, 75, of Stewartsville, New Jersey passed away peacefully in her sleep, Sunday, Oct. 14. Ann was born Nov. 1, 1942 in Cleveland to Dr. Harry H. Bromley and Eleanor (Alcott) Bromley. Ann graduated from Shaker Heights High School in Shaker Heights, Ohio in 1961; Green Mountain College in Poultney, Vermont in 1963;  Milwaukee Downer College in Milwaukee, and earned her BS degree from Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin.
