Edward James Waters of Darien passed away on Jan. 12, 2022. He was 80 years old. He was the son of the late Frederick Joseph Waters and Mary Agnes Slattery, and the brother of the late Frederick Joseph Waters Jr. He is survived by his sisters, Mary Ann Shields (Michael Shields) and Brenda Mahoney. Dorothy “Dot” Ann Pospischil, 70, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa died Friday, Jan. 14, 2022 at Mercy Medical Center. Dot was born on Dec. 30, 1951 in Buffalo, New York, to Raymond and Barbara Birchenough Hotaling, and she graduated in 1970 from Darien High School. She then graduated in 1974 from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois with a degree in education.
Janet Unz Phyfe, 97, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2021 at Masonicare in Wallingford. Janet grew up in New York City and moved with her family to Darien for her junior year of high school. Her father was a founding member of the Norwalk Skating Club, providing the family hours of shared enjoyment with the skating community. Janet graduated from Low Heywood School and earned her bachelor’s degree at Wheaton College.
On Friday, Jan. 7, 2022, at 9:30 p.m., Elder Robin Ann Dancy, surrounded by her husband, daughters, and granddaughter, was escorted by the angels from this life into the eternal presence of God. Irene “Carol” Kubovic died peacefully on Dec. 25, 2021 at AdventHealth Orlando. She was 82. She was the devoted wife and partner to John Kubovic for over 60 years. Carol was born on the Fourth of July in 1939 in Troy, New York.
Katherine Kelly Young passed away on Dec. 31, 2021 in New Canaan. She was 59. Katy was born on April 11, 1962 in New York City to Robert Jackson Kelly Jr. and Patricia Cohalan Kelly. She grew up in Darien and was a graduate of Darien High School.
Gerald Otto Strauch, M.D., was born into eternal life on Jan. 2, 2022 after an extremely full, productive and wonderful life. He followed quickly on the heels of his beloved wife, Margie, who left us just over four months ago on Aug. 24. Theirs was a marriage of love, devotion and respect, the likes of which we seldom hear and which lasted 66 years.
Cameron Herbert Repp a resident of Norwalk, passed away peacefully at home on Dec. 12, 2021 at the age of 92. He was born in Brooklyn, New York to the late Herbert Nelson Repp and Lavinia Stuart Repp. Cameron attended Hindley Elementary, Deerfield Academy and Kent State University, graduating with a bachelor’s degree. He then went onto have several jobs which included working for Walden Books, Yacht Haven, Rings End Lumber, Lloyd Lumber and Creative Cabinetry.
Pamela P. Elliott passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on Thursday evening, Dec. 30, 2021. Since contracting Parkinson’s and Lewy Body Dementia over 10 years ago, it was her strong desire to remain at home, surrounded by family, friends and the familiar view of the Goodwives River. Born in Youngstown, Ohio, to Ray and Polly Peterson, Pam was raised in Boardman, Ohio and graduated from Boardman High School in 1971. From there she received her BA degree in Education and Art History at Marietta College, Marietta, OH in 1975.
Carol Jean Swanson Brown, of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Dec. 21, 2021. She was 85. Carol was born on March 27, 1935 in Stamford, to Florence (Daly) and Carl Herbert Swanson. Raised in Darien, Carol was a member of the Darien High School class of 1953.
On Friday, Dec. 10, Richard “Dick” Terhune said goodbye to this world and strode into the light to rejoin the love of his life, Gretchen Reiche Terhune. Dick was 86 years awesome and a resident of OceanView in Falmouth, Maine. Despite the brief illness that laid him low at the end, he was a six-and-a-half-foot hunk blessed with good health, great humor, chronic curiosity and an affectionate, adoring personality that brightened the lives of his beloved family and many, many friends.
