Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to these groups and individuals for their kindness and service to the community.

Letter: Support William Tong, a Fighter, for Attorney General

To the editor:

This letter is in support of William Tong for the extremely important post of attorney general of the State of Connecticut. William, who is a six-term state representative from Stamford and Darien, has been a great leader on the Judiciary Committee and passed crucial legislation for our state to keep all our citizens safe. First, William is familiar with the workings of the state Legislature and the executive branch agencies, which is so important to the job of Attorney General. William has worked tirelessly to promote and pass bills that will protect all our population. Our gun laws are among the best in the nation and we must protect what we have.

Letter: Thank You, Supporters of Darien Youth Commission’s Halloween Window Painting Contest

To the editor:

On behalf of the Darien Youth Commission and the many sectors of the community who supported the DYC’s recent Annual Halloween Window Painting Contest, thank you. The weather was absolutely perfect for this 21st anniversary celebration, with close to 100 middle and high school students painting approximately 25 storefronts throughout the community. As the makeup of the merchant population changes from year to year, it was great to include a bunch of new storefronts in the fun. Like many of these special events, these activities are made possible as a result of the unique partnership the Darien Youth Commission forges with the public and private sectors. Again, special thanks to Beth Cherico, owner of Pie in the Sky LLC (a mobile art education service) for lending her expertise to the judging portion of this event.

Letter: This Election Is Our Chance for a Better State Government

To the editor,

No doubt, many of us will be relieved when the political campaigns and the rhetoric end on election day. But until then, please don’t lose sight of the critical importance of this election to the future of Connecticut and Darien, and of course, to you as a taxpayer. As we all know, the Malloy administration and its fiscal mismanagement have been devastating to Connecticut’s economy. As proof, Conecticut is ranked 49th in the United States in fiscal health, according to a recent survey. High taxes and excessive spending have not solved our problems, and they’re not going to.

Letters: Support Terrie Wood

To the editor:

I am writing in support of Terrie Wood’s candidacy to continue as state representative for Darien and Norwalk. I have known Terrie for 15 years and highly respect her work ethic and fair approach to politics. Her fortitude in Hartford and refreshingly positive attitude in this negative political arena is to be praised. Terrie is a class act and strong leader for our district. With her experience I believe she will help grow our economy, make Connecticut more attractive to business and revitalize our cities.

Letter: Darien GOP Chair on Democrat’s ‘Irresponsibility’

To the editor:

Once again, Democrats in Darien and across the state have shown they have no plans or solutions for Gov. Dan Malloy’s fiscal irresponsibility. Instead of discussing ways to fix the economy and bring jobs back to Connecticut, they are focused on fear mongering and national party politics. Voters should remember that years of Dan Malloy and Bob Duff have put us in the financial hole we find ourselves in today. Fortunately, in 16 days, voters across the state will go to the polls to support Bob Stefanowski and reliable Republican plans to cut taxes and grow our flagging economy. Chris Taylor

I am writing in support of Terrie Wood’s candidacy to represent Darien and Norwalk as our state representative. I believe that Terrie’s socially responsible positions on issues such as reproductive rights and the environment along with her commitment to working toward bipartisan solutions to the important fiscal challenges facing Connecticut make her exactly the sort of candidate we need to support. In a time of deep political divisions, Terrie exemplifies the type of sensible, cooperative, outcome-focused legislator we need to see more of. Public health and safety of the residents of Connecticut cannot be taken for granted. We have come a long way in preventing disease and promoting health. To ensure that we keep these health and safety measures in place, please join me Sunday October 21st at 1pm in Tilley Pond Park Darien and rally to get out the vote in support of our Democratic candidates and elected officials.

Letter: Selectman Susan Marks on Why She Supports Terrie Wood for State Representative

To the editor:

In 2008, when Terrie Wood was running for state representative in the 141st district, a very wise woman said, “Terrie listens first, questions, then acts.”

As I sat down to write a letter of support for Terrie this year, I realized those words are still so true. Darien, Norwalk and Rowayton are so fortunate to have Terrie representing us in Hartford. Terrie reaches out to her constituents. She listens to what they have to say. She represents us well in Hartford, and she holds many legislative updates to keep us informed about what is going on in the state.

On behalf of the Darien Department of Human Services, I wanted to thank you and the Tokeneke Pumpkin Carnival Committee for your generous support. The Pumpkin Carnival Committee provided tickets to families in town with admission to the fair, punch cards for rides, and food vouchers for pizza and lemonade. Local children were given the opportunity to enjoy rides, carnival games and pizza at the 53rd Annual Tokeneke Pumpkin Carnival. In addition, each of the children received a Tokeneke Pumpkin Carnival tee shirt. The joy you brought to these children (and their parents) was priceless!

Letter: Terrie Wood a Voice of Reason on Fiscal Responsibility, Mental Health, Substance Abuse

To the editor:

I am thankful for all of the hard work Terrie Wood has done in Hartford and she deserves our support again in November. Over the course of five terms, Terrie has consistently provided thoughtful and respectful leadership in Hartford. As the state and national electorate grow increasingly divisive, Terrie crosses the aisle and works for her constituency rather than partisan politics. She brings focus and is a voice of reason for many important issues including fiscal responsibility, mental health, substance abuse, and dyslexia. I am grateful that Terrie Wood is once again running for State Representative of the 141st District (Darien and Norwalk).

Our community is so fortunate to have Terrie Wood as our state representative for the 141st District – Norwalk and Darien. Her ability to work across the aisle, be open-minded, balanced and thoughtful in creating state policies to truly represent all of her constituents is what makes her such an effective leader. Connecticut’s current state of crisis requires responsible politicians like Terrie. Her focus on common sense solutions is the type of leadership that will help stabilize our economy and create an environment for growth in our state. Terrie also understands our communities and the evolving needs for improved education, healthcare, transportation and environmental policies which will ensure a better future for all of us and our children.

Letter: Terrie Wood Understands State Financial Issues While Addressing Social Issues

To the editor:

I am writing in support of Terrie Wood’s candidacy to once again represent Darien and Norwalk in Hartford as our state representative for the 141st District. Having known her personally for over 10 years, and watched her work tirelessly to advocate for our town and the state’s best interests during her first five terms, Terrie has consistently proven to be a tough, but fair and balanced public servant. In an environment too often dominated by bipartisan inertia, Terrie has demonstrated both the strength of character to stand up for what is right for her constituency, as well as the wisdom and flexibility to reach across the aisle when leadership is required to drive common sense solutions for the state of Connecticut. Be it her thorough understanding of the financial issues facing our state or her compassion to embrace and work to address social issues, Terrie is the right woman for the job. Matthew Troy
