Darien’s Votes in 2018 State and Federal Elections: Unofficial Vote Counts

In Tuesday’s election, Darien went one way and Connecticut went another: While this Republican town supported GOP candidates, some more than others, the state elected Democrats and gave that party more control over the state Senate and House. — These voting results are from the Connecticut secretary of the state’s website. What Will Be a Bit Different About Voting in This Election

Voters will find something different when they go to vote on Tuesday: Darien has bought 18 new voting stations for its six polling locations, at a cost of $839 a piece. Voting starts at 6 a.m. across Connecticut and polling places won’t accept more voters past 8 p.m. If you’re not yet registered to vote, you can go to Town Hall (bring identification). If you’re not sure where to vote, look at the links below. The new polling stations look different but should do the job better, said Republican Registrar John Visi. For one thing, the “desk” part can be set low enough that a person in a wheelchair could roll up to them and use them (see the picture — Visi’s hand is on a lower “desk” part, Registrar Susan Gray’s hand is on a higher one).

Letter: Support William Tong, a Fighter, for Attorney General

To the editor:

This letter is in support of William Tong for the extremely important post of attorney general of the State of Connecticut. William, who is a six-term state representative from Stamford and Darien, has been a great leader on the Judiciary Committee and passed crucial legislation for our state to keep all our citizens safe. First, William is familiar with the workings of the state Legislature and the executive branch agencies, which is so important to the job of Attorney General. William has worked tirelessly to promote and pass bills that will protect all our population. Our gun laws are among the best in the nation and we must protect what we have.

Letter: This Election Is Our Chance for a Better State Government

To the editor,

No doubt, many of us will be relieved when the political campaigns and the rhetoric end on election day. But until then, please don’t lose sight of the critical importance of this election to the future of Connecticut and Darien, and of course, to you as a taxpayer. As we all know, the Malloy administration and its fiscal mismanagement have been devastating to Connecticut’s economy. As proof, Conecticut is ranked 49th in the United States in fiscal health, according to a recent survey. High taxes and excessive spending have not solved our problems, and they’re not going to.

For Transportation Issues, How CT’s Candidates for Governor Stack up: Cameron on Transportation

Have you been following the race for governor? I have, and I’m deeply disappointed. Almost none of them is talking about transportation. How can we create jobs, stop people from moving out of state, encourage entrepreneurs or do anything to save our economy when we are in a literal and political gridlock? How much time do you waste in bumper-to-bumper traffic getting to or from work?

Letter: Darien GOP Chair on Democrat’s ‘Irresponsibility’

To the editor:

Once again, Democrats in Darien and across the state have shown they have no plans or solutions for Gov. Dan Malloy’s fiscal irresponsibility. Instead of discussing ways to fix the economy and bring jobs back to Connecticut, they are focused on fear mongering and national party politics. Voters should remember that years of Dan Malloy and Bob Duff have put us in the financial hole we find ourselves in today. Fortunately, in 16 days, voters across the state will go to the polls to support Bob Stefanowski and reliable Republican plans to cut taxes and grow our flagging economy. Chris Taylor
Darien RTC Chair

Letter: Support Terrie Wood for State Representative

To the editor:

I am writing in support of Terrie Wood’s candidacy to represent Darien and Norwalk as our state representative. I believe that Terrie’s socially responsible positions on issues such as reproductive rights and the environment along with her commitment to working toward bipartisan solutions to the important fiscal challenges facing Connecticut make her exactly the sort of candidate we need to support. In a time of deep political divisions, Terrie exemplifies the type of sensible, cooperative, outcome-focused legislator we need to see more of. Let’s make Connecticut a model for real bipartisan government that works. Melissa McKeithen

Letter: More Reasons to Come to the Democratic Rally on Sunday at Tilley Pond Park

To the editor:
Public health and safety of the residents of Connecticut cannot be taken for granted. We have come a long way in preventing disease and promoting health. In Connecticut we have some of the strictest gun laws in the country. We are also fortunate to have good access to health care and coverage that addresses preexisting conditions. To ensure that we keep these health and safety measures in place, please join me Sunday October 21st at 1pm in Tilley Pond Park Darien and rally to get out the vote in support of our Democratic candidates and elected officials.

Letter: Selectman Susan Marks on Why She Supports Terrie Wood for State Representative

To the editor:

In 2008, when Terrie Wood was running for state representative in the 141st district, a very wise woman said, “Terrie listens first, questions, then acts.”

As I sat down to write a letter of support for Terrie this year, I realized those words are still so true. Darien, Norwalk and Rowayton are so fortunate to have Terrie representing us in Hartford. Terrie reaches out to her constituents. She listens to what they have to say. She represents us well in Hartford, and she holds many legislative updates to keep us informed about what is going on in the state.
