Online submissions are now being accepted in an open call to artists for  “Photography and Sculpture,” an exhibit at the Rowayton Arts Center scheduled to run from Aug. 1 through 29, 2021. — an announcement from Rowayton Arts Center

The George Billis Gallery on Main Street in Westport is presenting a group exhibition from June 18 – July 25, featuring four painters and a ceramicist. An opening reception for the exhibit will take place from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, June 18, no reservations required. The exhibit is free and open to the public during regular business hours. Derek Buckner is a realist painter and has produced this series of watercolors of beach scenes. The intimate watercolors capture the relaxing setting with a freshness and air to the compositions.

The Rowayton Gardeners Club invites you to its first-ever Community Gardens Walk & Great Gnome Hunt on Sunday, June 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

It’s an event for people of all ages, featuring a nature inspired scavenger & gnome hunt, environmental education stations, farm fun programs by the Stamford Museum and Nature Center, refreshments, music, and fun for the whole family. Attendees will get an up-close look at six of Rowayton’s beautiful community gardens, with Rowayton Gardeners’ docents on hand to answer your questions. All proceeds from the event will directly benefit the upkeep and improvement projects at the Community Gardens and our outreach programs.

A new show at the Rowayton Arts Center (RAC), “In the City,” will be on view this Sunday, May 23 until June 20, 2021. This themed exhibition features 70 pieces of artwork by area artists in all media. ‘Artists in the City: From Masters to Modernists,’ Online Lecture This Wednesday

A free, online lecture by ArtScapades, “Artists in the City: From Masters to Modernists,” is being offered at 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 26 by The Rowayton Arts Center. — an announcement from Rowayton Arts Center
ArtScapades will look at how artists portrayed cities in their works, from 17th century realistic cityscapes to 20th century abstract metropolitan views. Included in this lecture are work by Johannes Vermeer, Camille Pissarro, John Sloan, Edward Hopper, Piet Mondrian, Georgia O’Keeffe and more. Robin Hoffman and Jodi Stiffelman began ArtScapades in 2009 after teaching art appreciation in the New Canaan public school system in order to share their knowledge with adults who wanted to learn more about art history.

A new art museum is opening Saturday, June 5 in central Norwalk with a free weekend celebratory party. The museum will include an exhibition gallery, a sculpture garden with regular live music on weekends, a cafe, studios for artists, a classroom and workspaces for students. — an announcement from The Norwalk Art Space

The Norwalk Art Space is located at 455 West Ave., next to Mathews Park (the location of the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum). The museum building is the former Norwalk First Church of Christ Scientist. “Our goals are to promote local artists, offer free art classes to high school students, and provide the public a welcoming space to enjoy art and music,” the museum says on its website.

The Carriage Barn Arts Center will open an exhibit, May 27, “She Is Rising,” a celebration of women of various ages, backgrounds and ethnicities — some captured from life, and others imagined — who represent female power. — an announcement from LiveGirl

The life and work of Paul Cézanne, one of the most influential artists in the history of painting, will be the subject of art historian Page Knox in an hour-long talk Tuesday evening, May 18. — an announcement from Darien Library

Cézanne has inspired generations of artists. Born in 1839 and generally recognized as a Post-Impressionist, his unique method of building form with color and his analytical approach to the natural world influenced the art of Cubists, Fauves and avant-garde artists from his death in 1906 until the present day. Through an in-depth examination of his work, including the portraits of Provençal card players and his long-suffering wife, the famous apple still lifes, and the landscapes of his beloved Mt. Saint Victoire, this lecture will explore the life and art of Cézanne as he sought to attain the “essence of form.”

The latest exhibit of the Norwalk Parking Authority’s Maritime Garage Gallery, “Bloom,” features art that incorporates energy and compelling visuals symbolizing the earth returning to life in the spring, as well as our own lives getting back to normal as we move out of the pandemic. — an announcement from the Norwalk Parking Authority
The exhibit is being held virtually on the Gallery’s social media, the fourth held online since last year.  The exhibit opened April 27 and continues through June 21, 2021. Want to Become an Exhibiting Members of Rowayton Arts Center? Bring in Art for Review on May 13

Artists interested in becoming an exhibiting member of Rowayton Arts Center may bring in artwork for consideration to the RAC gallery from 12 noon to 5 p.m., Thursday, May 13. The RAC will review the artwork on May 14, and artists will be selected that day, with notifications sent to accepted artists the following week. Artists should plan on picking up their artwork on Friday, May 14 from 12 noon to 5 p.m. or Saturday, May 15 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Benefits for RAC exhibiting members include entry into the Holiday Gift Show as well as the open juried exhibitions and members-only exhibitions.
