Mary Patricia Anne Fairbrother Crane, of Darien crossed the bar on Feb. 17, 2022. She was 97. The daughter of Charles and Vera Fairbrother, Pat was born Aug. 25, 1924 in Jamaica, New York.
Curtis B. Watkins of Carmel, New York passed away peacefully at home on Jan. 31, 2022. He was 72. The son of Alma F. Watkins, Jr. and Virginia L. Thayer, Curtis was born in Stamford on April 21, 1949 and grew up in Darien. A graduate of Darien High School class of ’67, Curtis went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in history in 1970 from Emory University.
It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we share the news that Madeline Roman, 96, passed away peacefully on Friday, Feb. 25, in her home in Darien. She spent her final days surrounded by her loving husband, daughters, son-in-law, grandchildren, great grandchildren, brothers, and extended family, whom she loved more than anything in the world. Jane Eyre Repp of Norwalk passed away on Jan. 30, 2022. She was 91. She was born on June 21, 1930 in New York to the late Henry Norman Eyre and Therese Quanz Eyre. She attended Rye Country Day School and Miss Porters School.
Charles Summerfield Hoffman, 91, died Feb. 3, 2022, at Southeast Georgia Health System, in Brunswick, Georgia. He was born on June 5, 1930, in Baltimore and was raised in Charleston, West Virginia. He was the son of Frances Roberts Hoffman and Dr. W.E. Hoffman. He graduated from the Mercersburg Academy in Mercersburg, Pennsylvania, and Washington and Lee University, Lexington, Virginia.
Roland Creaser, 83, passed away at home in Largo, Florida, on Jan. 28, 2022, surrounded by family. Roland was born Dec. 10, 1938 in Englewood, New Jersey. He then moved to Antwerp, Belgium, with his parents.
David McKinlay Jones passed away in his home in Tucson on Dec. 27, 2021 from unknown natural causes. Born in 1956 and raised in Darien, Dave graduated from Dartmouth and the University of Arizona with degrees in geology. Over his 40-year career he became a leader in Mexico’s gold exploration industry. Dave was an avid climber, caver, kayaker and guitar player.
Hans Thilmany, aged 94, died in his Darien home, where he lived since 1965. Hans was born in Frankfurt, Germany in 1927, the only child of Rudolf and Marie (née Ginsburg) who met as classics students at Freiburg University shortly after World War I.
His parents left Weimar Germany in the mid-20s to live in then-exotic Istanbul, but briefly returned to Germany when Hans’ maternal grandfather, a prominent Jewish doctor at one of Frankfurt’s hospitals, insisted on his birth taking place in Germany. Hans and his family enjoyed cosmopolitan Istanbul, where he was raised and attended both Turkish and French schools. Summer months were spent in Moda, then a village on the Sea of Marmara, where at an early age Hans learned to swim and sail, his lifelong passions. As a teenager he skied on Mount Ararat with classmates, another sporting passion.
David Peterson “Pete” Hunter died peacefully in his sleep Friday, Feb. 11, 2022, at home in Lebanon, New Hampshire. He was 83. Pete was born March 10, 1938, in Boston, a son of the Rev. Dr. David R. and Jewell (Peterson) Hunter. Pete grew up in Boston, and following his graduation from The Westtown School in West Chester, Pennsylvania, he attended Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, where he earned his bachelor’s degree.
Dr. Alan I. Lebowitz of Greenwich passed away on Feb. 9, 2022 at home surrounded by family. He was 81. Alan was truly a modern-day renaissance man who treasured the world around him and his place in it. He embraced science, technology, music, art and literature.
With her family around her, Joan Dreher Hopkins peacefully passed away on Sunday, Feb. 13, 2022 at her residence at Edgehill in Stamford. She was 91. Born Aug. 25, 1930 in Orange, New Jersey, Joan was the youngest of two children of Monroe Franklin Dreher and Elizabeth Stirling Dreher.
Patricia Waters (Patty) Levering of Sarasota Florida and Darien passed away peacefully on Feb. 12, 2022 at home, surrounded by her loved ones. She was 95. Patty was born May 9, 1926 in Baltimore to Mr. & Mrs. Theodore C. Waters of Towsen, Maryland. She was a graduate of the Bryn Mawr School and of Pine Manor College, Class of 1946.
Mark Alan Yarish of Darien passed away peacefully Feb. 7, 2022, with his wife by his side. He was 56. Mark was born on Sept. 15,1965, in Norwalk to Sigmond and Elaine (Hall) Yarish.
Dennis Reilly, a former resident of Darien, died Jan. 30, 2022, at his home in Vero Beach, Florida. He was 60. Dennis was born Nov. 6, 1961 in New York City to Ann Marie and John Reilly.
Surrounded by family and friends in her beloved home in Ellensburg, Washington, Lisa Craig Davidson quietly passed away after succumbing to a brief battle with lung cancer on Sunday afternoon, Feb. 6, 2022. Lisa was born in Glen Ridge, New Jersey in 1946. She grew up in Greenwich and attended Greenwich High School. Lisa spent her early years summering with her family in Rockport, Massachusetts and Belgrade Lakes, Maine.
