Charles Summerfield Hoffman, 91, died Feb. 3, 2022, at Southeast Georgia Health System, in Brunswick, Georgia.

Charles Hoffman, 91, died Feb. 3.
He was born on June 5, 1930, in Baltimore and was raised in Charleston, West Virginia. He was the son of Frances Roberts Hoffman and Dr. W.E. Hoffman.
He graduated from the Mercersburg Academy in Mercersburg, Pennsylvania, and Washington and Lee University, Lexington, Virginia. He served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War, and was a captain in the Reserve.
After his military service, he received an MBA degree from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Charlie was employed by Union Carbide for 30 years. He spent the early years of his career working in several plants of the Chemicals and Plastic Division. In 1973, he relocated to the New York City headquarters, first as a director of human resources for the Chemicals and Plastics Division and then as a corporate director of human resources. He was a vice president at the time he retired.
During the time he worked in New York City and Danbury, the Hoffmans lived in Darien and Ridgefield. After he retired, they moved to St. Simons Island in 1987.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary Bolling “Bolie” Davis Hoffman. Additional survivors include their three sons, Charles S. Hoffman III and his wife, Julie, of New Canaan, Staige Davis and his wife, Patricia, of Tampa, Florida, and Robert Bolling and his wife, Margaret, of Hudson, Ohio. Grandchildren are Carrie M., Charles IV, Staige Davis Jr. and his wife, Alexis, Huntley I., Benjamin B. and Gately M.
Throughout his career, Charlie served on the boards of several social service agencies, a hospital, and numerous church committees in both the Episcopal and Presbyterian churches. He served as a deacon and elder at St. Simons Presbyterian Church.
He was a member of the Sea Island Club and enjoyed a long and pleasant relationship with the Seniors and the Men’s Golf Association.
A graveside service will be held at a later time at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Greenwood, Va.
