Ted Tharp, a long-time resident of Darien, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 21, 2015. He was born on May 27, 1924 in Boston. He was the son of long-time Darien residents the late Carey E. Tharp and Louise Hall Tharp, a New York Times best-selling author who wrote Tory Hole, a historical novel set in the Tokeneke section of Darien. Ted was a graduate of Darien High and served in World War II in the U.S. Navy.
Martha A. Kosinski of Wilton, CT died November 18, 2015 at her home at Brookdale Assisted Living, after a brief illness. She was 83. Prior to living in Wilton, Martha and her family lived in Darien for over 30 years, Westport, CT for 10 years and Stratford, CT for 13 years. ______________

Daughter of the late Oscar Moody and Helen Fry, she was born Nov. 6, 1932 and was raised in Stamford.
Mary M. Burke, born in Brooklyn, N.Y. and a former resident of Darien and Norwalk, died on Nov. 14 in The Haven at Bellevue in New York, 10 days before her 90th birthday. Born on Nov. 24, 1925, in Brooklyn to the late Frank and Grace Simpson, Mary was one of nine children. She was predeceased by her siblings Veronica “Ronnie” Simpson Grupinski, Frances Simpson, Grace Simpson Snyder, John Simpson, Rosemary “Rosie” Simpson-Sorady, Joseph Simpson, and William Simpson.
Nancy Patricia Wunder died Nov. 9 with her beloved family by her side at Maplewood in Darien. Pat was 85 years old and loved by all her family and friends. She was born on Jan. 18, 1930 in Baltimore, and was the oldest child of the late Duncan Lyle and Charlotte Stubbs. Pat met her husband, Bill, the late William E. Wunder in high school in Baltimore.
Marilyn Bosh Vojta, of Stamford, CT died peacefully on Friday, Nov. 6, surrounded by her husband and children. She was 71. She touched the lives of everyone who knew her – her husband, children, grandchildren, extended family, her many friends, and especially the hundreds of young students she trained at Darien’s Explorer Post 53 through four decades of volunteer work. Her background as a teacher and her love of medicine made her especially suited for volunteering at Post, an emergency medical service in Darien run by local high school students and adult volunteers.
Kenneth S. Weeks, 93, died peacefully at home in West Yarmouth, Mass. with family by his side November 5, 2015, having recently moved there from Atria in Darien. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1946 and participated in the Salerno, Italy and Southern France landings as a member of the U.S. Navy 4th Beach Battalion of the Amphibious Forces. While in the NROTC program of the Navy he attended Princeton University, Trinity College, and Yale University, graduating from Yale with the class of 1948. Following employment with the Lustron Corp.
Mary Townsend, 98, of New York City, a well-known figure in New York business for more than half a century, died Nov. 4, 2015, in Branford. For much of the past two years Miss Townsend had been staying at the Gables at Guilford and before that was frequently at a family home in Darien. Mary Townsend was born Aug. 18, 1917, in Goshen, N.Y., the daughter of the late Chester and Maude Newell Townsend.
Marilyn Brothers Goodrich died this past week. She was the mother of Darien resident Gail Cunningham, grandmother of Kevin Cunningham (wife Karen), Christine Cunningham, and great grandmother of Jack and Colin Cunningham. The last six months of her life she spent being cared for by the Dominican Sisters of Hawthorne at Rosary Hill Nursing Home in Hawthorne, N.Y. Richard Charles Coyle, age 55, of Darien, CT, died on Friday, October 30, 2015 with his family at his side. He is now at peace in the Lord’s hands. He leaves his wife, Karen, and four children, Danny, Brian, Emily and Aidan. Rich also leaves his parents, Patrick and Marge, as well as siblings, Tom, Juliana and Maureen, and is predeceased by his brother, Patrick. He leaves behind 24 nieces and nephews, three great-nephews and their loving families.
Helen (Drezek) Brzoska, 92, passed away on Oct. 27, 2015. She was born on May 9, 1923 to Antonia Gronkski and Floran Drezek. She attended Stamford High School. She married Stanley “Charlie” Brzoska in 1946.
Miriam K. Moran of Greenwich, and formerly Darien, died on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2015, at Greenwich Hospital surrounded by family and friends who treasured her. She was born on Dec. 11, 1932, in Boston, Mass., to William and Hilda Kirkwood. She graduated from Trinity College in Washington, D.C., and also attended Harvard Graduate School of Education.
Suzannah (Suzy) Van Vlaanderan Warren, 75, of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fl. and Darien lost her battle to lung cancer on Oct. 19, 2015 surrounded by her family and friends. She is survived by her husband, Charles Ford Warren Jr. Suzy was born in Ridgewood, NJ and spent her childhood years in Hohokus, NJ, Palm Beach, FL and Nassau, Bahamas. ____________

William Robert Golden, Jr. of Darien, Connecticut died in the company of his beloved family on Wednesday, Oct. 21. He was born on Oct. 24, 1946 in Everett, Mass. to William Robert Golden and Edna Hahesy Golden. A proud “Double Eagle,” he graduated from Boston College High School in 1964 and Boston College in 1968 before enlisting in the army, where he served for three years.
It is with profound sorrow and a deep sense of loss that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Jean Marie Hessmer, 47, on Oct. 21. Jean was born in Chicago, Ill. on Feb. 29, 1968.
William Baxter Taylor, a 54-year resident of Darien and Rowayton, died peacefully Friday afternoon, Oct. 16, at home. He was 86. Bill, as he was always known, was born in Los Angeles on Nov. 18, 1928 to Matthew Ambrose and Marion Agnes (Baxter) Taylor.
