Ted Tharp, a long-time resident of Darien, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 21, 2015. He was born on May 27, 1924 in Boston.

Ted Tharp passed away Saturday, Nov. 21.

He was the son of long-time Darien residents the late Carey E. Tharp and Louise Hall Tharp, a New York Times best-selling author who wrote Tory Hole, a historical novel set in the Tokeneke section of Darien.

Ted was a graduate of Darien High and served in World War II in the U.S. Navy. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Brown University and his M.B.A. from Harvard University. He had a long career researching and writing about companies as an analyst on Wall Street.

He loved to play tennis at Noroton Manor and golf at Silvermine Golf Club. He was active in the Darien Representative Town Meeting, the Senior Men’s Association, St. Thomas More Bible Study and RCIA [“Right of Christian Initiation for Adults”].

Ted and his wife Jean of 57 years resided in Darien. His wife predeceased him this past February.

He is survived by his son Carey E. Tharp III of New Haven, his daughter Janet (J.T.) Lucas and her husband Thomas P. Lucas of Darien, a brother Mathew A. Tharp of Florida and a sister-in-law Janet (Sister Stephanie O.S.U.) Wilson of New York. Ted leaves two grandchildren, Brian A. Lucas and Andrew T. Lucas both of Darien.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Thomas More Church, 374 Middlesex Road, Darien on Saturday, Nov. 28 at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery in Norwalk. A reception at the Annex Building at St. Thomas More Church will follow the burial.

Memorial donations may be made to Special Olympics or Smile Train.
