Miriam K. Moran of Greenwich, and formerly Darien, died on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2015, at Greenwich Hospital surrounded by family and friends who treasured her.

She was born on Dec. 11, 1932, in Boston, Mass., to William and Hilda Kirkwood. She graduated from Trinity College in Washington, D.C., and also attended Harvard Graduate School of Education. Miriam was a teacher and enjoyed working with children of special needs; she was a true advocate of education.

She served on the Board of Directors of India House and New York Medical College and as a trustee of the HealthCare Chaplaincy Network of New York. In addition to these accomplishments, Miriam was also chairman emeritus of The Compound.

Miriam was a member of the Wee Burn Country Club and Woodway Country Club of Darien; the Blind Brook Country Club of Rye Brook; the New York Yacht Club; the Indian Harbor Yacht Club and Belle Haven Club of Greenwich; India House of New York; The Bath and Tennis Club; Club Colette and The Everglades Club, all of Palm Beach, Fl.

Miriam enjoyed bridge, golf, boating and travel. She led a highly active social life, continually entertaining friends and relatives and enjoyed being fêted by them in turn. Miriam was a devoted mother, wife, and friend. She will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Miriam was pre-deceased by her beloved husband Thomas Moran and son-in-law, James Livziey. She is survived by her children Suzanne (James) Rodenbush of Cheshire, Conn., Walter (Danielle) Schwind of Fairfield, Conn., Georgia Livziey of Jefferson, Mass., and Scott (Ashley) Schwind of Darien, Conn. and seven grandchildren.

Her family would like to extend a special note of thanks to her loving and compassionate caregivers, especially Yvonne Jones.

Funeral services will be privately held. Memorial donations may be made in Miriam Moran’s name to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation at 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018 or through the foundation website.
