Jeffrey W. Mucciolo of White Plains passed away suddenly on Aug. 31 in Clermont, FL. Jeff attended Darien High School, graduating in 1983, then from Syracuse University, where he studied radio, television and film. Jeff was a gifted copywriter and interactive advertising expert who worked in the New York City medical advertising industry for the past 30 years. The passion he had for life came alive in his music.

Thomas L. Hagopian, 59, of Darien died peacefully at home on Monday, Aug. 27, following a courageous battle against pancreatic cancer. A proud graduate of the University of Michigan and the Columbia University Business School, Tom was a pioneer and visionary in the digital media sector, starting with his conception and launch of the first major sports website, espn.com, and continuing into digital marketing and interactive TV with DirectTV and AT&T. He was proudest, however, to have had the opportunity to mentor and inspire others throughout his career. Tom was a lifetime sports fan, unbeatable trivia master and sportsman.

Felipe Santiago, 72, beloved husband of Fanny Villacreses Santiago of Norwalk, passed away on Aug. 31 at Bridgeport Hospital. Mr. Santiago was born on Dec. 28, 1945 in Orocovis, Puerto Rico and moved to Stamford in 1967, where he met and married his wife and started a family. In 1988, he and his family moved to Norwalk.  For 30 years, Felipe worked for the Town of Darien, until he retired in 2014.

George Hickson, a resident of Darien since 1936, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 25, 2018 at Norwalk Hospital. He was 90 years old. Mr. Hickson graduated from Darien High School in 1945 and from Tufts University in 1949. He received his master’s degree from Teachers’ College, Columbia University in 1959 and a Certificate of Advanced Study in Guidance from Fairfield University in 1975.

Victoria Alice Rodak, formerly of Darien, was recently called home to the Lord. Victoria was born in 1962 to the late Walter and Dorothy Rodak of Milford, Connecticut, where she was educated in the public-school system, graduating as valedictorian of Milford High School’s class of 1980. Victoria was invited to attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), graduating in 1984 with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering, with a minor in French language and literature. While at MIT, Victoria was a member of the women’s varsity gymnastics team, Society of Women Engineers and American Institute of Chemical Engineers. Victoria was a lifelong member of Delta Psi, a national co-educational fraternity, serving as an officer of the MIT Tau chapter.

William B. Holding, a prominent banker and accomplished painter whose joys were his family and music, died peacefully on Aug. 15 in Darien. He was 84. After a 30-year career at Morgan Guaranty Trust (now JPMorgan Chase) as a senior executive and president of its joint venture in Amsterdam, Bank Morgan Labouchere, Bill founded his own consulting firm, William Holding Associates, in 1991. The firm advised Dutch and other European corporations for more than a decade on investing in the United States.

Damon Burke Clemow of Darien passed away on Aug. 3, much too soon at the age of 43. Born on March 3, 1975, Damon was the son of Brian and Susan Burke Clemow and grew up in West Hartford with his siblings, Katharine and Justin. Damon was a serious and determined student who graduated from Loomis Chaffee, received his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania, and completed an MBA at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Damon began his professional career at Accenture in 1997, doing management consulting and technology strategy.

Florence was born Oct. 12, 1932 in Darien to the late Thomas and Georgiana (Strattinger) Moore. She worked for Darien Police Department for 30 years as a police matron and traffic agent where she was a well-known and very loved school crossing guard.

Herman E. “Karl” Day, Jr., 82, of Greer, SC, passed away on June 22. Karl was born in Flint, MI, to Herman Eugene and Florence Ford Day. In 1957, he graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point with a bachelor’s degree in engineering, a devotion to America and a zest for life. Entering active duty as a 2nd lieutenant, Karl was an Army Ranger, Green Beret, as well as a member of the 82nd Airborne Division and the 10th Special Forces Group in Germany. He earned a masters in engineering at Michigan State and returned to West Point, where he taught ordinance courses and two electives for senior cadets on several subjects — propulsion, ballistics, automotive, and materials engineering — the only department officer qualified to do so.
