Darien Road Race Coming Sept 16, Raises Money for Community Fund of Darien

The 39th annual Darien Road Race is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 16 at Pear Tree Point Beach and includes a 1.5-mile Fun Run and, new this year, a 5-mile race.

This year’s race will feature “The Finish Line” tent with music, games, sponsor booths, silent auction and an awards ceremony. The race, organized by the Community Fund of Darien, has raised a significant amount of money over the years to benefit our neighbors with critical needs in Stamford, Norwalk and Darien.

The top cause of preventable death in trauma is bleeding. Twenty percent of people who have died from traumatic injuries could have survived with quick bleeding control.

You can make a difference and possibly save a life by knowing what to do by taking a two-hour class being offered from 4 to 6 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 1, at Stamford Hospital’s Tully Health Center, 32 Strawberry Hill Court in Stamford.

The Republican primary for state and local offices on Tuesday, August 14, will be one of the most important ones in years. Among the positions in play include: Governor (with five candidates running), Lieutenant Governor (including our own RTC-endorsed candidate, First Selectman Jayme Stevenson), and for those in District 3 (northwest Darien), State House District 147 (with Darien’s Marcy Minnick competing).

Reminder: Restrictions on Darien Lawn Watering Are Mandatory — Twice a Week, No More

Because reservoirs are expected to remain low at certain points of every year (especially this time of year) for the foreseeable future, there are mandatory water restrictions on all Darien property.

First Selectman Jayme Stevenson recently described the restrictions and reminded residents that Aquarion Water Co. will be watching for violations more vigilantly especially now, when reservoir levels tend to drop.
