John Lehmann-Haupt. will perform a mix of classical works and his own arrangements of popular and traditional songs, including works by Bach, Jobim, Albeniz, Stevie Wonder, and James Taylor, as Darien Library’s Music in the Stacks series returns for a fall performance, Sunday, Sept. 29. You’re invited to the performance from 5 to 6 p.m. in the Community Room. John Lehmann-Haupt, a New York-based guitarist, draws on the wide range of music he has explored over the years, from folk songs and blues, through popular standards new and old, and on to the varied expanses of the classical realm.

The state troubadour serves as an ambassador of music and song and promotes cultural literacy. Refreshments will be served. “Music is my purest form of communication. It doesn’t care how much money you have, where you were born, the color of your skin, or how old you are,” Waller says.

Darien Library ‘Music in the Stacks’ Concert: Nick Revel on Electroacoustic Viola

Nick Revel, a violinist and composer, plays in an hour-long concert Sunday June 30 for Darien Library’s latest “Music in the Stacks” concert. — an announcement from Darien Library

The concert starts at 5 p.m. Refreshments will be served. Revel is also an improviser and educator, grew up in Wilton and is now based in Sunnyside Queens. His debut album of all original compositions and improvisations will take you on a musical journey through the inside of his mind and break preconceived notions of what a viola can do in a constantly-morphing sound-scape of genres. With the help of a microphone and speakers, a powerful audio program, and intricately programmed auto-triggering loops and live-processing, Nick has transformed his album into a solo show filled with wild textures and layers you’ve never heard before.

Due to inclement weather, The Jabberwocks’ a cappella performance for Sunday, January 20th has been canceled. Darien Library will be open for our regular Sunday hours of 1 to 5 p.m.
