Edward W. “Ned” Pocengal died peacefully in his home from liver cancer on Nov. 6, 2015 at the age of 53. ________

Born March 26, 1962 in Yonkers, N.Y., he grew up in Darien. He received his bachelor of arts degree in English from Southern Connecticut University. Pocengal had worked for the past 15 years as a cataloguer in the libraries of Yale University.

Nora H. Forlenzo died peacefully on Friday November 20th at home surrounded by her family. Born on June 14, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Mary Harrington. She was 88. Nora was raised on a farm in County Cork, Ireland and had a fondness for animals particularly her horse Molly. She moved to New York City in the 1950s, lived in Washington Heights and worked as a telephone operator and became a Yankees fan.

Ted Tharp, a long-time resident of Darien, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 21, 2015. He was born on May 27, 1924 in Boston. He was the son of long-time Darien residents the late Carey E. Tharp and Louise Hall Tharp, a New York Times best-selling author who wrote Tory Hole, a historical novel set in the Tokeneke section of Darien. Ted was a graduate of Darien High and served in World War II in the U.S. Navy.

Mary M. Burke, born in Brooklyn, N.Y. and a former resident of Darien and Norwalk, died on Nov. 14 in The Haven at Bellevue in New York, 10 days before her 90th birthday. Born on Nov. 24, 1925, in Brooklyn to the late Frank and Grace Simpson, Mary was one of nine children. She was predeceased by her siblings Veronica “Ronnie” Simpson Grupinski, Frances Simpson, Grace Simpson Snyder, John Simpson, Rosemary “Rosie” Simpson-Sorady, Joseph Simpson, and William Simpson.

Nancy Patricia Wunder died Nov. 9 with her beloved family by her side at Maplewood in Darien. Pat was 85 years old and loved by all her family and friends. She was born on Jan. 18, 1930 in Baltimore, and was the oldest child of the late Duncan Lyle and Charlotte Stubbs. Pat met her husband, Bill, the late William E. Wunder in high school in Baltimore.

Marilyn Bosh Vojta, of Stamford, CT died peacefully on Friday, Nov. 6, surrounded by her husband and children. She was 71. She touched the lives of everyone who knew her – her husband, children, grandchildren, extended family, her many friends, and especially the hundreds of young students she trained at Darien’s Explorer Post 53 through four decades of volunteer work. Her background as a teacher and her love of medicine made her especially suited for volunteering at Post, an emergency medical service in Darien run by local high school students and adult volunteers.

Kenneth S. Weeks, 93, died peacefully at home in West Yarmouth, Mass. with family by his side November 5, 2015, having recently moved there from Atria in Darien. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1946 and participated in the Salerno, Italy and Southern France landings as a member of the U.S. Navy 4th Beach Battalion of the Amphibious Forces. While in the NROTC program of the Navy he attended Princeton University, Trinity College, and Yale University, graduating from Yale with the class of 1948. Following employment with the Lustron Corp.

Mary Townsend, 98, of New York City, a well-known figure in New York business for more than half a century, died Nov. 4, 2015, in Branford. For much of the past two years Miss Townsend had been staying at the Gables at Guilford and before that was frequently at a family home in Darien. Mary Townsend was born Aug. 18, 1917, in Goshen, N.Y., the daughter of the late Chester and Maude Newell Townsend.
