Edward W. “Ned” Pocengal (1962 – 2015)

Born March 26, 1962 in Yonkers, N.Y., he grew up in Darien. He received his bachelor of arts degree in English from Southern Connecticut University. Pocengal had worked for the past 15 years as a cataloguer in the libraries of Yale University.

A talented gardener, he learned the Latin names and growing characteristics of hundreds of trees, shrubs, and perennials. The gardens, designed and planted with his surviving longtime partner, Thomas L. Reddoch, were always interesting combinations of both common and rare plants.

He was an avid reader of non fiction and enjoyed yoga, kayaking, cooking, and home remodeling.

In addition to Thomas Reddoch, he is survived by his father Edward Pocengal of Haverstraw, N.Y.; his mother and stepfather Nora and Tom Ryan of Southport, N.C.; two sisters and two nieces.

In keeping with Ned’s wishes, arrangements were private.

Donations in Ned’s name may be sent to The Animal Haven, 89 Mill Road, North Haven, CT, 06473 or to a charity of your choice.

Special thanks to Connecticut Hospice, Jason Schneider, and other friends for providing Ned loving care and comfort in his final days.
