To the Editor:

It was a privilege to run as a candidate for state representative for the 141st District. I’d like to thank all of you who supported my candidacy, whether you wrote a letter, hosted a lawn sign, made phone calls on my behalf or voted for me. I’d also like to thank the residents who took the time to discuss their concerns with me as I knocked on doors throughout our district. The experience of running was rewarding in so many ways. Again thank you for your support.

Klein’s Experience in Business Will Help in State Legislature

To the editor:

While serving as Darien’s First Selectwoman, Evonne Klein knew it wasn’t enough to just talk about a problem, you actually had to do something to fix it.  She brought a non-partisan approach to getting things done, and today, our town is better off for it. As our next state representative, her husband, Randy Klein, will bring the same solutions-oriented approach to state government.  Instead of talking about traffic congestion and blaming others for our budget deficits, Randy will bring his decades of experience as a business owner in the transportation field to the table to deliver results for Darien. His plan to consolidate government resources, cap the governor’s bonding authority and re-negotiate the State’s most costly pension obligations will go a long way to fixing our budget.  Lets elect Randy Klein for State Representative on Nov.

State representative candidate Randy Klein has knocked on his 3,500th door as part of a voter outreach program that began back in May. Klein owns a small business in Norwalk and lives in Darien. “From the very first day that I decided to run for office until now, I have been motivated by one central goal – to speak with as many residents of Darien, Rowayton, and Norwalk as possible about the issues that matter most to them,” Klein said Thursday. __________

Klein Will Be Good for Education
To the editor:

Darien receives education dollars from the state through the Education Cost Sharing and Excess Cost Grant systems. Last May, cuts in funding proposed at the last minute, rightfully raised the concern of parents, elected officials, students and teachers in our school district. These cuts were eventually restored, but with the current state of the budget, there is no guarantee that Darien, Rowayton or Norwalk will be left untouched by future cuts or changes in how the above-referenced systems allocate funds. The Education Cost Sharing system is ripe for reform, and we will need a seat at the table when it is reformed. More importantly, the money we receive through the Excess Cost Grant system to defray the costs of special education, must be protected.

Many of Darien’s taxpayers know that in the years of my serving on the Darien Board of Finance, I repeatedly warned the town’s citizens that the time would come when the financial situation in Hartford was so abysmal that Darien would have to go it alone when it came to receiving any state grants or cost-sharing.

Do you shop at or own one of the hundreds of vibrant small businesses in the area? Have you supported or benefitted from the multitude of community social services? Assuming the answer is “Yes” to most if not all of these questions gives one a sense of the significant and positive impact that Terrie Wood has had on this community, not only as our state representative but also as a mother, volunteer, community leader and former business owner.

As a former teacher and guidance counselor at Darien High School, I’ve had the privilege of working with many Darien students. We are fortunate to live in a community that places a high value on the education of our children. 

Maintaining a successful public school system isn’t getting any easier, and we need solutions-oriented leadership to make sure Darien schools continue to succeed. Randy Klein’s piece on the recent CT Coalition for Justice v. Rell ruling shows that he understands both the present and future challenges facing our schools, and that is one of the many reasons why I will vote for him as our next state representative this November. When my wife Evonne and I moved to Darien almost 30 years ago, we chose our town because it was a vibrant community with excellent schools for our growing family. To this day the performance of our schools remains one of Darien’s most valuable assets and continues to attract new families. Since launching my campaign for state representative, I have talked with many parents whose top priority is that their children continue to receive an excellent education. Parents understand that for our schools to provide the education we have come to expect we cannot be caught off guard again, as we were last spring, by a proposed one million dollar cut in state funding at the 11th hour. They recognize the need for standards of performance for both students and educators, and that all must be held accountable for meeting these standards.

I just bought a car that got me thinking about driving in this area of Connecticut. Getting around can be frustrating…congestion is overwhelming at times…noise and pollution aside. Costs on Metro-North are going up. There’s talk of tolls in Hartford. While some recent progress has been made on the Merritt and I-95, just try to get anywhere during rush hour.

Randy Klein Calls on State Rep Terrie Wood to Denounce Trump

Randy Klein, candidate for state representative in the 141st state assembly district challenged his opponent to join him in denouncing Republican candidate Donald Trump’s campaign for President in advance of Trump’s rally in Fairfield on Saturday. 

“Earlier this summer, I was proud to stand with my friends and neighbors here in Darien against Donald Trump’s dangerous, hateful and bigoted campaign.  Now that he is right in our backyard it is time for all of us, including my opponent Terrie Wood, to do the same. Remarkably, Ms. Wood has remained silent while her party’s nominee for president’s reckless rhetoric has divided our country, denigrated our troops and endangered many of our citizens at home and abroad.”

In June Klein, along with other members of the Darien community, denounced Trump’s conduct as a candidate for the presidency. ________________
