Darien High School’s 2021 graduation ceremony combined congratulations on getting through high school during the COVID-19 pandemic with the regular high school graduation themes — life advice, thankful appreciation and assurance that the graduates have what it takes to succeed in the future.

The Swap Shop at the Darien Transfer Station and Recycling Center is opening Monday for the first time since the pandemic closed it, town officials have announced, and they’ve explained why the shop won’t be open on Saturdays yet.
A brief ceremony was held at Darien’s 9/11 Memorial Tuesday morning, the 17th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center and other massacre sites, resulting in the deaths of thousands, including some from Darien.
Florence J. Bianco, 91, a lifelong resident of Darien passed away peacefully on Sunday, Sept. 9
Justine Arata Robinson, 94, died peacefully with family and friends, on July 21.
A man later found with cans of beer and narcotics crashed his vehicle and was found unconscious by police after his vehicle jumped the curb off the Darien High School loop roadway on Thursday, less than 20 minutes after school was let out, police said.

Dance on the DL, which previously offered dance classes out of JoyRide Studo at Goodwives Shopping Center, has moved into its own space next door in the shopping center.

The vendor operating the cafe at Darien YMCA, received a “C” rating, the worst in the town A-B-C ratings system, in the most recently released town Health Department inspection reports.
The sole reason: The open “grab-and-go” cooler case was broken and found to be at 54 degrees. It didn’t matter that the cafe’s state score was high — 94 — because the nonworking cooler is considered a serious violation under the state health code.

There’s still time to register for the 4th Annual Step Up For The Brave Stair Climb Challenge at Webster Bank Arena on Saturday, Sept. 15.
A 30-year-old Darien man told police he was texting when he hit a tree as he was driving on Hollow Tree Ridge Road, and police smelled marijuana in his car, then found some, police said.
After returning home from a bar in the wee hours of Sunday, a couple got into an argument which resulted in each pushing the other, according to police, who charged them both with breach of peace.
The Darien Police Department will enforce traffic regulations and monitor security for Darien High School’s first night football game, to be held on Friday, Sept. 7, 2018.
