John H Chamberlain, 87, of Winnetka, IL passed away peacefully on Sept. 1.
John was born to Henry and Mary Jo Chamberlain in Chicago on July 5, 1931. He graduated from Loyola Academy in 1949 and received a bachelor’s degree from Loyola University in 1953. Upon graduation from Loyola, John served his country honorably as a first lieutenant in the United States Army.
John married Beatrice DeGryse in August 1959 and raised a family of four children. His career started in Chicago and took him to New York for nine years, living in both Summit, NJ and Darien. In 1976, John and his family returned to Illinois, where he finished raising his children in Kenilworth before he and Beatrice moved to Northfield.

John was a CPA and worked in public accounting until he retired from International Minerals and Chemical in Libertyville, IL. John volunteered for non-profit boards and was a Eucharistic minister for Saints Faith Hope & Charity Catholic Church. Despite physical challenges late in life, John continued to practice his favorite fishing hobby with his sons on Lake Koshkonong, in Wisconsin.
He leaves as his legacy four children: John Jr. (Jane), Hank (Kim), Michael (Christy), and Mary Chamberlain. He also leaves his sister, Catharine Grant, nine grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice, and brothers Henry, S.J. and Frank. S.J.
The Chamberlain family would like to extend their thanks to his two angel caregivers who treated John with dignity, compassion and love, they forever will be a part of our family.
Visitation will be at 10 a.m., Friday, Sept. 14, 2018, immediately followed at 11 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at Saints Faith, Hope, & Charity Catholic Church, 191 Linden St., Winnetka, IL 60093.
