On behalf of the Darien Department of Human Services, I would like to thank you and your fellow Lions Club members for your generous support of our annual Holiday Gift Giving Program. The $1,000 in Shop Rite gift cards which you provided will help our families and seniors enjoy a nice holiday meal and will continue to benefit our clients during the year. Your ongoing support over the years means so much to our department. We rely on local organizations such as yours to help us provide our clients with the vital services they need. The Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County received a staggering donation yesterday… nearly one ton of turkeys plus additional dry goods were provided through a team contribution effort.  Stamford EMS, Stop and Shop at Ridgeway Shopping Center and Our Lady of Grace Preschool & Kindergarten worked together to make the donation. — an announcement from Stamford EMS and Our Lady of Grace Preschool and Kindergarten
Stop and Shop, located in Ridgeway shopping center, generously provided the turkeys to community partner Stamford EMS to be delivered, by ambulance, to the Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County. Our Lady of Grace School contributed cranberry sauce, green beans, mashed potatoes, stuffing and other canned and packaged side dishes that were collected by their school community. All turkeys and donations will be distributed to soup kitchens, emergency pantries and shelters across the region. “At this time of giving thanks, and in the spirit of community, we came together to help our neighbors in need,” said Patricia Squires, chief and CEO of Stamford EMS.

The donations from the families of Our Lady of Grace Preschool & Kindergarten in Glenbrook are a portion of the total provisions that the school community collected, which measured over one ton. A sizeable contribution of food was designated to help those in their school community in need.

Americares is delivering 50 tons of critical medicine and medical supplies to help children and families in war-torn Syria. One shipment has already arrived and two more shipments containing intravenous fluids, oral rehydration solutions, and other lifesaving items, are in transit. UPDATE, 8:34 a.m., Wednesday: Americares says that on “Giving Tuesday,” Dec. 3, “Gifts up to $10,000 will be matched 8X until 11:59 p.m.” That means that, for example, a $20 donation would result in the organization getting another $160.

With more than 350 guests in attendance, Pacific House hosted a successful and festive 18th Annual Pacific House Gala on Friday, Oct. 25 at the Hyatt Regency Greenwich. The event raised funds to support the essential services provided by the organization, including an emergency shelter for men and young adults and a steadily expanding portfolio of deeply affordable supportive housing. The gala is the organization’s largest fundraiser of the year. Pacific House must raise $1 million annually from public donations just to support the daily operations of the emergency shelter.

Americares is opening six more health clinics in Colombia to meet the increasing demand for primary care services and access to medicines for families fleeing the unprecedented humanitarian crisis in Venezuela. — an announcement from Americares

The new clinics bring Americares total number of primary care sites in Colombia to 10 in an effort to alleviate the strain on the Colombian health system. Clinicians are expected to provide more than 200,000 consultations over the next year. Operated in coordination with the Colombian Ministry of Health and Social Protection and with the generous support of the United States Agency for International Development and other donors, the Americares clinics will provide comprehensive primary care for Venezuelan children and adults six days a week through August 2020. Patients receive medical exams, mental health services and medication at no cost.

Violence Crisis Center will host its second annual HarvestFest, a fundraising event, on Saturday, Nov. 9 at the Fairfield Hunt Club in Westport. — an announcement from the Domestic Violence Crisis Center

The evening will feature live music and entertainment, auction items, a photo booth, signature fall cocktails and a selection of hors d’oeuvres to celebrate the season.
