The matching grant will be available that day for gifts of up to $10,000, the organization said in an announcement on Tuesday, Nov. 26. That means a gift of $20 would result in another $160 given to the organization. To donate, visit americares.org/GT2019.
More Than Money on #GivingTuesday
As part of the international nonprofit organization’s #GivingTuesday campaign, volunteers will assemble hygiene kits at Americares headquarters and global distribution center in Glenbrook on Tuesday.
Employees of Henkel, FedEx and community volunteers will work in shifts to pack 3,500 hygiene kits for distribution to disaster survivors worldwide. The kits contain essential hygiene items, including soap, shampoo and toothpaste, and are distributed to families displaced by tornadoes, hurricanes, flooding, wildfires and other emergencies.

“Giving Tuesday kicks off the charitable giving season and is a great opportunity to invite supporters to roll up their sleeves and help us prepare for the next emergency,” said Americares Executive Vice President and Chief Development Officer Christine Squires. “Thanks to our dedicated corporate partners and volunteers, families around the world will have access to essential relief items in times of crisis.”
Now in its eighth year, #GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and the generosity of people around the world.
The annual event, celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, kicks off the charitable giving season.
Founded by New York City’s 92nd Street Y, #GivingTuesday inspires millions of people to give back and support causes they believe in.
