It is with profound sadness that our family relays the news of the passing of our beloved Irene Marie Mahoney Trautmann on Saturday morning Sept. 3. She was 59.
“Renie”, as she is known to those who knew and loved her, was a guiding light. A cherished daughter, sister, mom, aunt, godmother, wife and dear friend. Her amazing positivity touched all she met. Renie lived with the joyful, uplifting spirit of giving and service to others. If you were lucky enough to be in her orbit, you felt nothing but sunshine.
Born on April 13, 1963, Renie was a beautiful homecoming queen in her hometown of Southampton, New York. She brought her selfless gift of love and giving to Darien, her adopted hometown of over 30 years.
Renie touched so many young lives as a dedicated music educator and advocate, a “DHS band mom,” private piano teacher, past president of Darien Music for Youth, Community Volunteer of the Year, sunday school teacher, and substitute teacher at Holmes Elementary School.
While doing all of the above, she raised a grateful family who were the center of her universe. Renie’s passion guided her to evolve an earlier sales executive career into earning her real estate license and successfully join the team at William Pitt Sotheby’s in Darien.
And, wow, could she hit a golf ball! As a member of Shorehaven Golf Club, she won many long drive awards and took her love of the game to the U.S. Women’s Golf Open at Sebonic Golf Club to serve as a marshal.
Renie is survived by her husband, Carl. Her children, Nicholas, Ari and Andrew. Her mom and namesake, Irene. Her siblings, Bill, Linda, Tim and John. Sister-in-laws Jaye and Jennifer and loving cousins, nieces, nephews and godchildren.
We welcome all to her wake from 4 to 8 p.m., this Thursday, Sept. 8, 2022, at the Lawrence Funeral Home in Darien.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Sept. 9, at St. John Catholic Church in Darien, with a celebration of life at the Darien Community Association, 274 Middlesex Road, immediately following.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Swim Across America (for cancer research) in your name for Irene Trautmann (“swimmer name” Irene Trautmann) or to PreventCancer.org.
