An overnight smash-and-grab burglary to a store in downtown Noroton resulted in $375 being taken by a thief who caused an estimated $2,000 in damage done after throwing a rock through a front window to get in, police said. The burglary, which happened at about 3:30 a.m. Thursday at Frate’s Wines & Liquors store at 1937 Post Road, is similar to store burglaries for the past month or so in Stamford, where store windows were broken, police said. Police gave this account of the incident:

According to a video surveillance recording, at 3:33 a.m. a mid-sized vehicle pulled up on the east side of the building and soon after that the window was smashed, the suspect entered the store and within seconds got to the cash register. The suspect removed the cash drawer, which the store owner said contained exactly $375, and left the scene. Nothing else was taken.

When employees of Mini of Fairfield County arrived at the dealership early on Saturday, Oct. 15, they found a car resting on three milk crates, all four of its tires and rims gone, police said. A store manager said nothing seemed to be amiss when the dealership closed at 6 p.m. the night before. and a cleaning crew was there until about 11 p.m. Employees arrived starting at about 6 a.m. that Saturday, and police were called by 8 a.m.

Both driver’s side windows were smashed in the brown Minicooper S Switchback, probably as a way to get to the car’s tire jack in the trunk and wheel locks in the glove box. A console in the car was also opened and broken.

Money was found to be missing from the Darien Doughnut office early on the morning of Monday, May 9, after a period in which small amounts of money were found to have been missing, the store owner told police. Over the past few weeks, the owner had noticed money missing from the daily closings — different amounts, but all small. On the morning when the report was filed, the owner was told by an employee working early that money was missing from the office at the store. The store, located at 370 Heights Road, had been closed at 3 p.m. the Sunday before, but workers are often there at very early morning hours to bake items. There was no forced entry into the business, and none of its alarms had gone off, police said. Police are actively investigating the theft.
