Money was found to be missing from the Darien Doughnut office early on the morning of Monday, May 9, after a period in which small amounts of money were found to have been missing, the store owner told police.

Over the past few weeks, the owner had noticed money missing from the daily closings — different amounts, but all small. On the morning when the report was filed, the owner was told by an employee working early that money was missing from the office at the store.

The store, located at 370 Heights Road, had been closed at 3 p.m. the Sunday before, but workers are often there at very early morning hours to bake items. There was no forced entry into the business, and none of its alarms had gone off, police said.

Police are actively investigating the theft.
