Attention 6-8th graders: Middle school students of all abilities are invited to bring a friend, brother or sister and hang out at the Depot Friday night. Play Xbox, pool, foosball, ping pong, basketball, four square, arts and crafts, etc at the Depot from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Sept. 21. The snack bar will be open for hamburgers, hot dogs, french fries, drinks, etc. — an announcement from Darien Depot

‘LiveGirlTalk,’ a Confidence- and Leadership Skills-Building Program for Girls, Starts Oct 1 at the Depot

LiveGirlTalk, a 10-week facilitated discussion group for girls, will be offered at the Depot for 10 weeks from the beginning of October through mid-December. The curriculum-based program, with a professional mentor, creates a brave space for girls to share concerns and interests and builds social emotional intelligence and self-esteem. — an announcement from the Depot

This 10-week free program will be offered at The Depot beginning Monday, Oct. 1 to Dec. 14 from 4:15 to 5:30 pm.

Registration Starts for Cops and Kids Adventures Program — Deadline is Sept 7

Registration has begun for the “Cops and Kids Adventures” program, where Darien police officers and kids have fun “adventures” together and and come up with a community-service project. The activities are meant to help build relationships. — This article is based on an announcement from Darien Police Department. Examples of past years projects include a supply drive for the Darien Human Services Department and providing free smoke and carbon-monoxide detectors for residents in need. This year’s outreach program will consist of collections for the Darien Human Services pantry. The joint program between Darien Police Department and the Depot is free to participants and will be limited to the first 20 applicants.

The party at Darien Depot will have face painting, DJ with games, foosball, foursquare and social time with all your Darien friends. Pizza, Popsicles and drinks are included. The fun runs from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 30. The rain date is June 1. Price: $20

The Depot Darien Youth Center presents “Come & Let’s Talk: Juuls & Vapes” ab0ut what teens should know about vaping, particularly with the “Juuls” brand. The presentation takes place at 7:30 p.m. tonight at The Depot, 25 Heights Road. Dennis Bludnicki has been with Liberation Programs, Inc. for over 12 years, working as a drug counselor at Greenwich Youth Options, and a counselor at Liberation’s outpatient clinic in Stamford facilitating early recovery skills for adults. Dennis now works with youth and their families, providing prevention, education and drug and alcohol counseling. Maggie Young, MSW, LADC, B.S, CCS has been with Liberation Programs, Inc. for over 24 years, working as a case manager, counselor, team leader, and Director of the agency’s male (Liberation House) and female (Families in Recovery) inpatient treatment programs. She is currently the Director of Women and Children Services in Greenwich.

Dear Depot Community:

It is my pleasure to announce the launch of two annual scholarships to be awarded to two graduating seniors from the Depot Community. These awards will be presented at Darien High School on May 24 beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The Bankwell For Good Scholarship will be awarded to the senior who has been a key member of a Depot club or organization and who consistently exhibited a high level of commitment and service to the Depot. This winner will receive $2,500. The Janice Marzano Scholarship will be awarded to the Depot senior who embodies the most positive aspects of Janice’s personality; spirit, kindness and a true love for the Depot and its core values. The recipient must not only possess these traits but also be in need of financial assistance.

Find out about the history and present organization of the Darien Police Department in a one-hour presentation by two police detectives Thursday evening, March 22 at the Depot. Detectives Mark Cappelli and James Palmieri will talk about the department from 7 to 8 p.m. They’ll discuss the many teams, bureaus and collaborations within the building at 25 Hecker Ave. “The Darien Police Association strongly and generously supports the Depot and its programs — and always is there to keep an eye on us!” the Depot said in an announcement. “Please bring a friend and join us for an hour.”

The public is invited to an informal workshop/discussion on vapes, e-cigarettes and “Juuls” at the Depot, Darien’s youth center, on Thursday, March 15 as part of the Depot’s “Coffee & Conversations” series. The event takes place from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Speaking will be Dennis Bludnicki and Maggie Young, each of whom has worked at Liberation Programs Inc., which is co-sponsoring the discussion. Here’s more about who they are:

Dennis Bludnicki has been with Liberation Programs, Inc. for over 12 years; initially working as a drug counselor at Greenwich Youth Options for seven years. He later was a counselor at Liberation’s Outpatient Clinic in Stamford facilitating early recovery skills to adults dealing with alcohol and other drug addictions through individual , group and family counseling. Currently, Dennis has returned to working with youth and their families in the Greenwich Community and surrounding area, providing prevention, education and drug and alcohol counseling.

Myths about eating disorders and how to help a friend who may have one are the subjects of this month’s “Teen Talk” program on Tuesday, Feb. 27 at The Depot Teen Center. The speaker will be Silver Hill Hospital’s Dr. Sara, Niego, service chief, eating disorders at Silver Hill Hospital. Niego is speaking as part of Depot’s “Teen Talk” program for high school-age students. The event takes place from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 27 at the Depot on Heights Road.

Does your 6th-8th Grader want to get certified by the Red Cross for babysitting? This course is $150 and designed for young people to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and responsibly give care to infants and children in a residential setting. Learn basic child care and basic first aid. Participants will receive a certificate of completion. Space is limited.

TEEN TALK, the Depot’s newest program for teens only, is meeting tonight, Jan. 23) from 7 to 8:15 p.m.
This month’s discussion will be addressing drugs and how to help friends/family that are using; the correlation between opioid use and suicide, and finding resources to help. 
On hand will be Robert DiRoma, Jr. LADC, LMSW from Life solution Center of Darien and Detectives James Palmieri and Mark Cappelli. Teen Talk is open to all Darien High School aged students whether in public, private or home-schooled. Teen Talk will meet one Tuesday every month at the Depot. 
February’s Teen Talk will be held from 7 to 8 p.m., Jan. 26; Planned Parenthood of Southern New England will be here discussing Plan B, birth control and resources for teens.

BE AFRAID….be VERY afraid…..! The “Monster Mash” Halloween bash takes place at the Depot Youth Center on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and you’ll have a terrifyingly good time. Prizes at the monstrous event include candy and live eels — errr, live goldfish, that is (scared ya, didn’t we?)! Kids are urged — implored, even — to come in costume. The cost is $10 per family.
