This fourth annual event will be bigger than ever with celebrity judges and a line-up of dancers. It features local celebrities and community leaders performing choreographed dance routines, mirroring the hit TV show. “Dancing Stars of Greenwich is full of all the fun, glitz and glamour of the hit TV show Dancing with the Stars,” said Elmar Schmidt, owner and ballroom dance instructor of the Fred Astaire Dance Studio of Greenwich. “Local stars and leaders in the community have been training to compete, just like on television.”

The panel of celebrity judges and the audience decide who will win the Mirrorball trophy. Guests will enjoy an evening of live entertainment, music, dancing, a champagne reception, hors d’oeuvres and a silent auction.

The Darien Human Services Department is accepting donations of gift cards for its Back-to-School Program. — an announcement from the Darien Human Services Department

This program provides $50 worth of gift cards for school supplies to students, grades K-12, whose families receive any of the following: Darien Human Services Programs; free or reduced lunch program; a Parks & Recreation or Town Youth Commission camp scholarship; SNAP; Husky Healthcare, or services from Person-to-Person. Gift cards from Target, Walmart, Kohl’s and Amazon are preferred so children can buy supplies (including basic clothing items). Gift cards can be delivered to the Human Services Department in Town Hall, room 109, Monday through Thursday between 8 a.m. and 5:15 p.m. Gift card distribution is scheduled from August 8 to 25, also Monday through Thursday between 8 a.m. and 5:15 p.m.

After a two-year hiatus, the Hindley Happening carnival is taking place on Saturday, May 7, with rides, fun food, and games where you and your kids can win tickets for prizes, the Hindley PTO announced. Food offerings include Fjord, Darien Butcher Shop, Heights Pizza, Uncle’s Hot Dogs, Worlds Best Sundae, Kona Ice, carnival favorites like cotton candy, and more. “There is something for everyone, at every age,” the PTO announcement said. The PTO uses the event to raise money for the school. The carnival starts at 10 a.m. and runs till 6 p.m.

The Hindley Happening carnival is at Hindley Elementary School at the corner of the Post Road and Nearwater Lane.

“After two years of hosting our gala virtually due to COVID, we are thrilled to be able to come together in person once again in support of families of premature babies,” said Tina Tison, executive director of Tiny Miracles. “It promises to be a fun-filled night, but most importantly, it will celebrate local leaders who have made a difference in the lives of families in our community experiencing the trauma of pre-term birth, while raising necessary funds to support the vital work of Tiny Miracles.”

The Tiny Miracles Foundation, a Darien-based not-for-profit organization set up to help area families with premature babies, has announced Tina Tison as its new executive director. — an announcement from The Tiny Miracles Foundation

Tison joins the foundation from The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk, where she was director of marketing since 2016. “I am looking forward to working with our partners and volunteers to guide and support families impacted by prematurity,” Tison said. “The Foundation has an incredibly important mission and has helped so many families since its creation.”

Ashley Dineen, president of the Foundation’s Board of Directors, said, “We’re so pleased to welcome Tina, and know that her skills, experience, energy and vision will lift the organization to new levels.”

Tison will direct the foundation’s efforts to help preemie parents in Fairfield and New Haven counties through critical times, as well as to enhance neonatal intensive care unit services and improve the short- and long-term outcomes for local preterm babies and their families. Several roads on both sides of Rings End Bridge will be closed temporarily Sunday, Nov. 7, for the “Run With The Saints” 5K Road Race, starting at 11:35 a.m. at St. Luke’s Church, 1864 Post Road. — an announcement from Darien police
