Allan Philip Shumofsky of Rockville, Maryland, passed away on Oct. 17. He was 79.
Allan, son of Sarah and Sam Shumofsky, was born in Bridgeport and graduated from Andrew Warde High School.
He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial engineering from Lehigh University and an MBA from the University of Bridgeport. He graduated summa cum laude from Lehigh and was a member of Tau Beta Pi, the engineering honor society.
His early career was working with his grandfather and father at the family business, Bamby Bakery in Bridgeport. Later, he became a certified public accountant and worked as an accountant in Darien and Bridgeport.
Allan is survived by his wife Claire; his sisters, Mady Shumofsky of Oakland, California and Laura Brown (David) of State College, Pennsylvania; his daughters, Julie Chivo (David) of Mercer Island, Washington; Nina Shumofsky (Curtis Meuse) of Rockville; and his grandchildren: Talia and Daniel Chivo, and Jack and Kate Meuse.
His funeral will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 21, 2022 at Congregation B’nai Israel. Burial will follow at B’nai Israel Cemetery, King’s Highway in Fairfield. For more information, to join a livestream and to share an online condolence, visit the funeral home website.

Allan loved being a Fairfield resident for 77 years. He also had cherished memories of his four years at Lehigh University. He was a lifelong member of Congregation B’nai Israel where he served on the Board of Trustees. He rarely missed Saturday morning Torah study and, when the weather permitted, would arrive on his bike.
