Robert Stephen Shankman, 77, passed away peacefully on Oct. 31, 2022. Born in Norwalk on April 3, 1945, he was the son of the late Louis and Florence Vogel Shankman. He graduated from Cherry Lawn School in Darien. Bob (as he liked to go by) served in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1967.
W.P. “Peter” O’Neill died on Sunday, Oct. 23, in the Philippines of a brain tumor. He was 97. Peter was born on Dec. 20, 1924, to Connecticut parents Gladys Elizabeth and John Daly O’Neill, both born in Stamford and long time residents of Darien.
Edward Marc Axelrod, 74, of Darien passed away peacefully on Oc. 31. He was born July 10, 1948 in Brooklyn, NY. Ed graduated from Brunswick High School in Greenwich, CT and received his B.S. from Syracuse University with a major in accounting. He began his career at Price Waterhouse and received his CPA license in 1973.
On Saturday, Oct. 22, John N. Ray, loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away at the age of 97 in West Hartford. John, known to all as Jack, was born on May 3, 1925, in Bridgeport to H. Benjamin and Florence Margarita (Norton) Ray. He and his parents resided in Darien, where Jack grew up enjoying many outdoor pursuits, including camping, boating, hockey and riding as a member of the New Canaan Mounted Troop. At the age of 17, Jack enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served in the Pacific and Japan during World War II.
Kind, hilarious, handsome, larger-than-life, flying Irishman. world traveler Stephen Francis Ryan is off to the pearly gates. Steve graduated from Iona College, received an MBA from UConn and served his country. He married the perfect woman, the lovely Marion Therese, with whom he enjoyed 61 years of marriage. They raised two daughters and endured the loss of their baby son, Stephen Douglas.
Selwyn Kenneth Shillinglaw of Darien passed away peacefully on Oct. 17, 2022, at Norwalk Hospital. He was 93. Selwyn was born in Iowa on Aug. 27, 1929, to the late George and Lena (Eberhardt) Shillinglaw.
Maura Gallagher-Wilson, of Darien died on Oct. 13, at Stamford Hospital. She had battled metastatic lung cancer and its complications for nearly two years. She was 58. Maura was born on Sept.

Elizabeth Sherwood Frank of Houston passed away on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2022. She was 27. Liz is the adored daughter of Jane and Stephen Frank and loving sister to William and Caroline. Liz was in her fourth year of medical school at Baylor College of Medicine.
John James Brown Stoetzer,Jr. died peacefully in Eagle, Colorado on Sept. 26, 2022, at the age of 88. Mr. Stoetzer had been a businessman and an active volunteer in his community. John was first and foremost a wonderful husband, father and family man. He loved spending time with family and friends.
Nancy Jane Hecker Steinegger, 89 years old, a resident of Stamford and formerly both Darien and Greenwich, passed away on Friday, Sept 16, 2022, with her loving family and family of caregivers by her side. Nancy was born April 19, 1933, in Stamford to the late Mable and William Hecker. She graduated from Stamford High School in 1951, and immediately began her 67-year marriage with her high school sweetheart, John Steinegger. By the age of 22, Nancy quickly learned how to keep herself, her husband, and their three children happy and thriving. Volunteering as a Cub Scout den mother, PTA president, homeroom mother, and church lay teacher were critically important roles that made Nancy the best mother she could possibly be.
A truly amazing woman from a generation like no other, a mentor, a friend and our wonderful mother Glenna Maduro de Rham passed away peacefully at her home in Gallatin Gateway, Montana, on Nov. 1, 2021, surrounded by her family. She was 85. Glenna led an amazing and storied life filled with adventure, love, and joy. She was born in New York City on Oct.
Allan Philip Shumofsky of Rockville, Maryland, passed away on Oct. 17. He was 79. Allan, son of Sarah and Sam Shumofsky, was born in Bridgeport and graduated from Andrew Warde High School. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial engineering from Lehigh University and an MBA from the University of Bridgeport.
William (Bill) Earle Ruscoe passed away Friday, Oct. 7, 2022 after a long illness, with his wife of 56 years, Rosemarie, by his side at Maplewood Senior Living. Born on July 6, 1934 in Norwalk, Bill was a life-long resident of Darien. At Darien High School, Bill lettered in football, ice hockey and track. Following graduation, Bill served four years in the U.S. Navy and attended Springfield College and LaGuardia School of Aeronautics.
Paul C. (Chuck) Richardson Jr. of New Canaan, passed away from Alzheimer’s disease on Sept. 22. He was 84. He was born on April 16, 1938, in Philadelphia to Paul Charles Richardson and Josephine Patterson Richardson. He moved to Darien at age 3 and lived here for most of his life.
