In separate incidents, Darien victims said their mail was stolen, including one case where an Intervale Road resident said he saw it happen.
The incidents were reported to police on the same day, Monday, Oct. 10. Darien police gave these accounts of what happened:
At about 9:25 a.m., the Intervale Road resident said that while sitting in his house, he watched a silver Prius drive up to his mailbox, where the driver took items from it. The victim checked the mailbox and found nothing in it. He called police at 9:29 a.m.
The other incident, at Darien Post Office, was reported to police at 2:05 p.m. the same day but happened earlier.
A Richmond Drive resident told police that she’d recently mailed two checks from one of the outdoor mailboxes at the Post Office on Corbin Drive. She later discovered that each of the checks had been altered and cashed for much larger amounts. The names on the checks were also altered and made out to two people whom she didn’t know.
