While a Mansfield Avenue family was away over the weekend, their home was entered and vandalized, they reported to police.
The house is on the market, and real estate agents had access to it to show home-buyers.
One real estate agent saw nothing out of place on a visit at about 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 6, but at about the same time on Sunday, there were several broken toys strewn throughout the house. Two pillows and some chairs had been stabbed with a sharp instrument. It appeared nothing was taken.
The real estate agent noticed that the basement doors leading outside were locked in the open position and window blinds that had been left up were drawn down. Boxes leading from the basement to the ground floor had been knocked down. Police said there was no sign of forced entry, so the basement doors were likely the way the home was entered.
The homeowner told police she doesn’t suspect anyone in particular of the vandalism, but last December the house had been vandalized with eggs. She has children in Darien schools.
Police detectives processed the scene, asked neighbors if they’d seen or heard anything (they hadn’t) and are continuing to investigate.
