A house expected to be demolished, eventually, was vandalized sometime between July 10 and 15, a caretaker for the property told police on Aug. 1. Doors for several rooms were taken off their hinges and thrown against a wall. Several windows were broken. Bathroom fixtures were ripped off and thrown around.
A housewarming “gift” of an unusual kind awaited the new arrivals at a house on Waverly Road in the Noroton Bay neighborhood two weeks ago: Windows smashed and about 10 lacrosse balls inside the house. On Saturday, July 16, the new homeowners found multiple windows of the house broken, including one large window about 6 1/2 feet high by 8 1/2 feet wide. Three days before, a neighbor had seen a young male in the back yard of the property throw something just before hearing glass break. The neighbor yelled at the male, who ran off. The neighbor didn’t recognize him.
Sometime overnight last Thursday to Friday, someone attacked a mailbox on Raymond Street. The mailbox post was damaged by a rock, and an M-80 firework was set off inside the mailbox, but apparently fizzled. It still blackened the interior of the box, which is expected to cost about $125 to replace. A woman who lives at the house told police the household was in bed early, by about 8:30 p.m. When she went out to walk her dog, she saw the damage at about 5:30 a.m. A high school student lives in the home, but there are no suspects.
A house under construction on Relihan Road was vandalized sometime overnight Thursday to Friday, April 14 to 15, the builder told police. The damage included two broken basement windows on the side of the house and damage done inside the building. The builder told police that bulkhead doors leading to the basement had been closed late Thursday but were found open the next morning. The builder called police at 7:17 a.m., Friday. A box of nails had been dumped on the stairway leading to the second floor; an electric box was pulled from a 2-by-4 board near the front door; a second electric box was pulled from a similar board on the third floor; a sensor wire was cut from a carbon monoxide detector; and an air-conditioning duct in the attic was cut.
Someone vandalized a ceramic planter with a potted plant in it in front of a Tokeneke Road business downtown in the early hours of Saturday, police said. A police officer on patrol recalled seeing nothing out of place at 1:30 a.m. with the planter, located on the sidewalk in front of the business. But by 6:30 a.m., the planter was broken, the same officer saw. It appeared that the pot was maliciously broken. Editor’s note: Bars in Connecticut close by 2 a.m.
On Tuesday morning, March 8, someone threw a rock through the passenger-side window of an employee’s pickup truck parked by an office building on the Post Road, police said. An employee at the office, located at 455 Post Road, told police that when she arrived at the office at 8:30 a.m., she didn’t see the window broken, but another employee who came in 15 minutes later said the window had been smashed. The employee was not at work that day, but his wife came to the scene. She said it didn’t appear that anything had been taken from the truck, and the glove compartment was still locked. A small, tan-colored rock was on the passenger seat, and the doors were still locked.
Someone using what looked like fireworks blew up a green metal mail box on Marianne Road. The incident was reported to police on Thursday, Feb. 4 by a neighbor. A police officer who went to the scene saw that the mailbox was flattened out on the ground near its post, which wasn’t damaged and a small piece of what looked like fireworks nearby. The estimated damage was about $150.
While a Mansfield Avenue family was away over the weekend, their home was entered and vandalized, they reported to police. The house is on the market, and real estate agents had access to it to show home-buyers. One real estate agent saw nothing out of place on a visit at about 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 6, but at about the same time on Sunday, there were several broken toys strewn throughout the house. Two pillows and some chairs had been stabbed with a sharp instrument. It appeared nothing was taken.

Darien police gave this account of the matter, based on what they were told by a resident who was home at the time:
At about 10:30 p.m., a woman was sitting in a side room of her house when she saw from a window that a small SUV was travelling east on the road, then stopped and backed up quickly in front of her house. After a few minutes, she forgot about the car, but heard what she thought was a knocking noise. She thought it was her daughter returning home from a babysitting job. But then she heard something break the front window of her living room.
