Virginia (Ginny) F. Miller, of Darien passed away peacefully on Oct. 2, 2015 at the age of 82.

Ginny was a loving wife, a mother, and a teacher in Connecticut schools. She did extensive volunteer work, investing herself deeply in her community using her time, interests and talents.

Virginia (Ginny) F. Miller, of Darien

She began volunteering as a member of the Stamford-Norwalk Junior League, joining after graduation from college. Born in Cleveland on Jan. 11, 1933 to Eleanor Clark Frost and Bruce Ledyard Frost, she and her family later moved to Pelham Manor, where she graduated from high school.

She then attended Syracuse University School of Education where she graduated in 1954 Magna Cum Laude. She went on to teach for 20 years in New Canaan, Greenwich and Darien public schools. In 1957 she married Donald S. Miller, and in 1960 they moved to Darien, and raised their two children.

Ginny found a great amount of satisfaction doing volunteer work after she retired from teaching in 1985. She was a volunteer for Hospice Care beginning in 1987. She also volunteered for the Starlight Children’s Foundation which grants wishes to children ages 4 – 18 who are critically, chronically or terminally ill.

Ginny loved to sing and had been a member of the Park Street Singers since 1992. She also served her church in many other capacities; as a deacon, elder, Sunday school teacher, Stephen Minister, vacation bible school teacher, and was a member of the Chancel Choir since 2001. Ginny also did volunteer work at Stamford and Norwalk Hospitals.

Ginny is preceded in death by her loving husband who passed away in 2010, and is survived by her daughter, Lorraine Suchy (Rob) and son Stewart Miller (Grace), and her three beloved grand-daughters, Kirsten, Kara and Kimberly. She is also survived by a sister, Nancy Smith of New Hampshire.

A celebration of Ginny’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 23 at Noroton Presbyterian Chapel, 2011 Post Road, Darien.
