For the third time in six weeks, a water main break has occurred on Mansfield Avenue — this time near 248 Mansfield Ave. with about 25 customers affected, according to Aquarion Water Co.

The utility announced the water main break on its website. The broken water main is 8 inches wide and, the utility says, is expected to be repaired by 10:45 p.m. (although the time range of 8:45 to 10:45 is given).

“During and after the outage event, some customers may experience discolored water,” the Aquarion announcement said. “You may want to use stored water for drinking and cooking, and delay clothes washing until water is clear. Run your cold water faucet until the water appears clear, prior to resuming use for these purposes.”

Mansfield Avenue experienced a water main break on Jan. 4 near its intersection with Half Mile Road (closing Ox Ridge School for a day), well to the north of Tuesday’s break. To the south, a water main on Mansfield Avenue near its intersection with Mansfield Place was reported broken at about 5:30 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 14, and was fixed by 4 p.m. Monday, Darien police said.

This Google map shows all three locations, which are all along a 1.2-mile stretch of the road.

Here’s what the announcement looks like on the Aquarion website (the time “8:53 p.m.” is marked as “updated”):Aquarion announcement water main 2-16-16
