Water Main Breaks on Runkenhage Rd, About 15 Customers Affected

Aquarion Water Co. announced early Wednesday afternoon that a water main ruptured under Runkenhage Road. The main was expected to be repaired by 4:30 p.m., according to the 1:11 p.m. announcement. About 15 customers on Runkenhage, Cross and Coves End roads and Tokeneke Trail were affected (links are meant to show roads, not exact locations on them). “During and after the outage event, some customers may experience discolored water,” the announcement said.

The water main appears to have been fixed. Aquarion no longer has the notice about it on its website. Update, 1:42 p.m.:

The water main has not yet been fixed, according to Aquarion Water Co., which at 1:18 p.m. updated its original announcement without changing it. Original article, 11:19 a.m.:

A 12-inch-diameter water main pipe near 283 Noroton Ave. was reported ruptured at 8:38 a.m. Thursday, according to Aquarion Water Co., and is expected to be repaired between 12:30 and 2:30 p.m.

About 25 water customers on Noroton Avenue, Bouton Lane and Pine Street were affected by the pipe rupture. Water pipes are more frequent in either severely cold weather or when the weather goes from below freezing to warmer temperatures, according to Aquarion.

Water Main Break on Mansfield Ave: Third Time in Six Weeks

For the third time in six weeks, a water main break has occurred on Mansfield Avenue — this time near 248 Mansfield Ave. with about 25 customers affected, according to Aquarion Water Co. The utility announced the water main break on its website. The broken water main is 8 inches wide and, the utility says, is expected to be repaired by 10:45 p.m. (although the time range of 8:45 to 10:45 is given). “During and after the outage event, some customers may experience discolored water,” the Aquarion announcement said.

Cold, Temperature Change Bursts Pipes Around Town

Three apartments at Avalon Darien were evacuated when a pipe on one end of the building burst in the cold weather at about 8 p.m. on Sunday. It was only one incident among several reports of burst pipes that day and the next. A steady flow of water was coming out the side of Building 17 at the apartment complex at 137 Hollow Tree Ridge Road, according to a police report. Firefighters from Noroton Heights Fire Department went to the scene. A closer examination of the leak couldn’t be made because the water had caused so much damage that the integrity of the ceiling was in doubt, police said.

Water Main Break on Mansfield Avenue Near Mansfield Place

A water main has broken on Mansfield Avenue, causing police to block the road near its intersection with Mansfield Place and detour traffic. Police announced the detour at 5:25 p.m. in a tweet on Twitter. The water main is under repair, but that and icy conditions caused the detour, police said.
