A man driving in the northbound lanes of Interstate 95 near Exit 10 was swerving from the center lane to the breakdown lane several times before a Darien police officer pulled over his car and later charged him with driving while under the influence, police said.

Darien police described what happened with this account, including accusations not proven in court:

The officer was on patrol and using the highway at about 2 a.m. Saturday, May 5 when he spotted a white 2014 Infinity Q50 swerving from lane to lane.

After stopping the car and while speaking with the driver, the officer smelled the strong odor of an alcoholic drink. The driver, a 26-year-old Norwalk man, said he had been drinking that night.

The driver couldn’t perform field sobriety tests to an acceptable standard, so he was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated and failing to drive in the proper lane on a highway.

He was taken to Darien Police Headquarters, where he refused to take a breath test.  He was later released on $100 bond to a friend.
