Darien High School Principal Ellen Dunn announced the appointment of Mark Mazzone as a new assistant principal, replacing Adam Schoenbart, who resigned in July to take a job in Chappaqua.

Here’s the full text of Dunn’s announcement, emailed Monday afternoon:

It gives me great pleasure to announce the appointment of Mark Mazzone as assistant principal at Darien High School. Mark will replace Adam Schoenbart, who resigned in July to take a position in Chappaqua.

Mark Mazzone, just appointed as assistant principal for Darien High School. His first day was today, Monday, Aug. 19.

Mark comes to Darien after serving as assistant principal at The Institute for Collaborative Education, a New York City public school, for seven years.  Prior to that Mark served as the Math Department chairperson, math teacher and athletic coordinator and coach, all at The Institute for Collaborative education.

Mark graduated from Amherst College with a Bachelor’s [degree] in economics. He received his Master’s [degree] in secondary math education from Pace University in New York and his School Building Leadership certificate from New England College.

Mark was part of the Math for America: Master Teacher Fellowship in New York from 2012 through 2016. The fellowship strives to improve math education in New York City.

He has also been a member of the New York State Performance Consortium in New York City since 2008. The consortium designs and assists in the implementation of student-centered, project-based learning environments.

Mark is “honored and excited to become part of the team at Darien High School.  He added, “I have met many members of the school community over the past month and it is clear how passionate our body of parents and educators are in supporting one another to provide a positive, well-rounded education experience for our students.  I look forward to meeting the rest of the community and partnering with you in finding new ways for students to be challenged and experience success in Darien.”

Mark begins his work at Darien High School today [Aug. 19]. We congratulate him on his appointment and welcome him to our school community.
