Darien Library’s “Pride Film Fest” continues with “In & Out” at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, June 12 in the library’s Community Room. Upon winning an Academy Award, actor Cameron Drake (Matt Dillon) honors his high school teacher, Howard Brackett (Kevin Kline), who he announces, before millions of viewers, is gay. Stonewall is a drama about a fictional young man caught up during the 1969 Stonewall Riots. Danny Winters (Jeremy Irvine) is forced to leave behind friends and loved ones when he is kicked out of his parent’s home and flees to New York. You can watch this film at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, June 5 in the Darien Library Community Room. Alone in Greenwich Village, homeless and destitute, he befriends a group of street kids who soon introduce him to the local watering hole The Stonewall Inn; however, this shady, mafia-run club is far from a safe-haven. As Danny and his friends experience discrimination, endure atrocities and are repeatedly harassed by the police, we see a rage begin to build.

Come see the movie “Haze” on Monday night at Darien Library. The movie is about a college student from Fairfield County who died in September 2004 from alcohol poisoning after passing out on a couch in his fraternity house following a hazing initiation at the University of Colorado. A panel discussion with questions from the audience will follow. In 2008, the Gordie Foundation (named after the student, Gordie Bailey) produced Haze, a documentary telling Gordie’s story and discussing the issues surrounding college drinking and hazing. This program is for parents and mature high-school aged students.

The annual Focus on French Cinema film festival, which takes place in a few weeks in Stamford, Greenwich and Manhattan, has notable French directors and actors coming for a visit, along with at least 19 films, many shown in the area for the first time. The festival kicks off with an initial screening at the Avon Theater in Stamford on Monday, March 27, then moves to Manhattan events that Tuesday through Thursday. Starting Friday, the festival offers showings of the films all weekend long at the Bow Tie Cinemas in Greenwich. The festival will have award-winning films not only from France, but Quebec, Switzerland, Belgium and African French-speaking countries — all presented with English subtitles. Celebrated French Director Claude Lelouch will attend the festival as “the Honored Guest.”

Parents and other adults are invited to a conversation and film screening of Escalation, a film that highlights the earliest warning signs of relationship violence. The YWCA Greenwich, in partnership with the One Love Foundation, is presenting the film. According to a release from the YWCA, the statistics are staggering: 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men will be in a violent relationship in their lifetime. Nearly 50 percent of these women and 40 percent of these men experience relationship violence for the first time between ages 18 and 24. Young women ages 16 to 24 are at a three times greater risk for abuse. Escalation has been shown in over 500 high schools and colleges.
