A burglar alarm at BMW of Darien at 140 Ledge Road at 3 a.m. last Monday led to the arrest of a 31-year-old woman sitting in the passenger seat in a parking lot next door, police said.

Darien police gave this account (with accusations not proven in court) of the matter:

Officers responding to the burglar alarm found a gray Dodge Charger without license plates on it parked in the lot next door — at Whole Foods. A woman was in the front passenger seat of the vehicle. On the back seat was a license plate from North Carolina indicating the car was a rental. The car had been rented to another person.

The woman, Jamila Pereira, 31, of Norwalk, at first said she was there after having an argument with her boyfriend, but she could not tell police why she was in that particular location.

She was detained while officers checked out the BMW parking lot next door. They had to cut through a fence to check part of it. They found no one else.

On Pereira or in her purse police found three prescription drugs, suboxone strips used (as an alternative to methadone) for treating heroin addiction, an unidentified orange pill, a spoon with burnt marks on it and a copper wire scrubber like a Brillo pad — an item commonly used for heating and using narcotics for intravenous injections.

Questioned further, Pereira later told police she was there to steal rims and tires from parked BMWs. Officers found cinder blockes, tools and blankets which appeared to be specifically for jacking up vehicles to remove the tires and rims.

Police charged Pereira, a resident of Oakwood Avenue in Norwalk, with third-degree criminal trespass, conspiracy to commit fourth-degree larceny, illegal possession of prescription narcotics and possession of drug paraphernalia.

They never did find who else might have been in the car with her, but police have a suspect and have applied for an arrest warrant. Pereira paid a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear later in state Superior Court in Stamford.
