A 59-year-old man was arrested on an accusation he tried to steal two tires and their rims from BMW of Darien overnight on Sept. 20 to 21.
In statements from a department spokesman and in an arrest warrant application, Darien police gave this account (an accusation not proven in court) of the matter:
Sean Healy, now of Park Avenue in Bridgeport, has a long arrest record, including 26 previous arrests charging him with crimes including drug possession and selling as well as larceny and interfering with a police officer.
At 3:03 a.m., Darien police received notice of a burglar alarm activated at BMW of Darien at 140 Ledge Road. As they searched the area, police found a gray Dodge Charger sitting in the next-door parking lot of Whole Foods Market, with a Norwalk woman, Jamila Periera, in the front passenger seat.
The woman, 31, initially told police that she had been arguing with her boyfriend. She could not tell police why the car was in that particular spot or where her boyfriend was. She was detained while police checked out the BMW property.
Police heard someone moving about in a wooded area behind a rear parking lot of BMW. They never found Healy or anyone else back there or on the car dealership’s property.
Meanwhile, police found in the car (a rental), cinder blocks and tools commonly used for taking tires off of cars, along with a book bag on the back seat with personal documents that had Healy’s name on them. Moving blankets were on the back seat. Police also found three prescription strips with suboxone, used as an alternative to methadone for treating heroin addiction.
They also found an orange pill, a spoon with burn marks on it and a copper wire scrubber like a Brillo pad — an item commonly used for heating and using narcotics for intravenous injections. Also in the car was an orange pill in a container with someone else’s name on it.
Police eventually charged Pereira, a resident of Oakwood Avenue in Norwalk, with third-degree criminal trespass, conspiracy to commit fourth-degree larceny, illegal possession of prescription narcotics and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Pereira changed her story in speaking with police. She said she was there with her boyfriend to act a a lookout in helping him steal two tires and their rims from the dealership. Dealership managers later told police that the least expensive tire and rim combination sold there was priced at $500 (and Healy was accused of trying to steal two sets).
Police later applied for an arrest warrant for Healy, which was approved. At about 7 p.m. on Oct. 19, Norwalk police, aware of the arrest warrant, told Darien police they had Healy in custody, and Darien police officers went to Norwalk to arrest him.
Healy is charged with possession of burglar tools, conspiracy to commit criminal trespass, criminal trespass, conspiracy to commit fourth-degree larceny, illegal possession of prescription narcotics and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was held on $20,000 bond. He was released at 6 a.m. the next day on that bond, with the help of a bail bondsman. Healy is next scheduled to appear Dec. 3 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
