The Depot Youth Center is inviting parents to a free workshop, “7 Ways to Support Your Student’s Study Practice,” presented by S4 Study Skills. Here’s how a Depot announcement describes the workshop:
“During this powerful one-hour presentation, parents will learn how to they can support their child with seven tools and concrete ideas that can be implemented right away for better results and grades. […]

“Parents will learn the answer to these and other questions:

What are the 7 skills all students need to be successful in school? How should they prepare for tests? How can your student eliminate distractions when they study?

StraightTalk at the Depot: Mental Health Treatment & Substance Abuse Recovery

Adults and teenagers are invited to two separate screenings of Escalation — a powerful and emotional engaging film that illuminates the warning signs of unhealthy and potentially dangerous relationships. The film has been described as “eye-opening” yet deeply recognizable. The screening (running time: 38 minutes) will be followed by conversations about empowerment and next steps. Students: Monday, March 27 from 7 to 9 p.m. at The Depot, 25 Heights Road
Adults: Tuesday, March 28 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Darien Library, 1441 Post Road

Register online by Friday, March 24. These events are free and open to the public but space is limited.

POSTPONED TO APRIL 20: ‘Questioning?’ Talk for Parents on Kids Unsure of Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity

UPDATE: THE DEPOT HAS ANNOUNCED THIS EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED TO APRIL 20 (because of weather delaying the installation of a new roof). Join other parents for an informal conversation about this common question for many parents, and frankly, a question ALL parents should be asking themselves, because this situation could always happen! During this talk, we will discuss what it means to be “questioning” one’s sexual orientation or gender identity, and if my child is experiencing this, or their friends, and how to support them. Questions may arise such as: What do these labels mean? Is this normal?
