It’s Always a Memorable Thanksgiving When the Police Are Called In: Two Tales

Some Thanksgivings are more eventful than usual, as shown in these two police reports, including accusations not proven in court:

Shortly before 2:38 a.m. at a home on Harriet Lane, when all through the house, not a creature was stirring until a resident heard banging on the outside door and ringing of the doorbell. When the resident opened the door, what did he see but a man who ran past the resident and into his home. Asked who he was, the intruder replied, “Nick.” When told to leave, he did. The resident then called police.

Traffic, Parking, Other Rules for Those Attending Turkey Bowl Game on Thanksgiving

The 2019 Darien-New Canaan Turkey Bowl starts at 10 a.m., Thanksgiving morning at Darien High School, and for the 4,000 people with tickets, there are rules about where to park and how to get onto the high school campus. Expect delays in traffic, so give yourself plenty of time. If you’re one of the lucky people parking on the campus, you got your parking pass with your tickets. Don’t forget to bring it. If you don’t have a parking pass (or forgot to bring it or you lost it or the dog ate it or you left it in your unlocked car and it was stolen overnight), you’re not going to get in.

Look for congested roadways later today as more than 2 million New England travelers — 3% more than last year — make their annual Thanksgiving pilgrimage to celebrate with family and friends, says AAA Northeast. — an announcement from AAA Northeast
Nationally, more than 55 million folks are expected to travel over this Thanksgiving holiday with 90% of that overall number driving the nation’s roadways, AAA projects. “As you know, more people on roadways mean greater congestion,” says Fran Mayko, AAA Northeast spokeswoman. “And greater congestion means a greater potential for vehicle crashes.” At a morning news conference at Troop G, Bridgeport, AAA Northeast joined the representatives from the Connecticut State Police and state Sen. Tony Hwang, a Fairfield Republican, to remind motorists to travel safely this holiday.

All turkeys and donations will be distributed to soup kitchens, emergency pantries and shelters across the region. “At this time of giving thanks, and in the spirit of community, we came together to help our neighbors in need,” said Patricia Squires, chief and CEO of Stamford EMS.

The donations from the families of Our Lady of Grace Preschool & Kindergarten in Glenbrook are a portion of the total provisions that the school community collected, which measured over one ton. A sizeable contribution of food was designated to help those in their school community in need.

How to Buy Tickets for Turkey Bowl 2019, Coming to Darien High School

Turkey Bowl 2019 will be held on Thanksgiving morning at 10 a.m. in the Darien High School Stadium. The agreement between Darien and New Canaan to host the Turkey Bowl in Stamford cannot be renewed because this alternate site is unavailable. Following the guidelines set by our first responders, we are limited to 4,000 spectator tickets to be shared between Darien and New Canaan. To accommodate our fans, we are including two temporary sets of bleachers for the game. Although this is a community event, it belongs first to the students and to the student athletes who are participating.  As a result, we will prioritize student ticket sales, and offer remaining tickets to the public.
