Darien High School Principal Ellen Dunn issued an announcement early Wednesday afternoon wishing everyone a happy Thanksgiving and gently asking students to remember that “you represent your school and your community” at Thursday’s Turkey Bowl game with New Canaan.

She emailed the announcement to families of students. Here’s the full text:

Dear Families,

I want to wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving from the entire DHS family to yours.  I would also like to share the announcement I made a few moments ago about the Turkey Bowl tomorrow.

All my best,
Ellen Dunn
Principal

Good morning, DHS family!

As we prepare for an exciting Thanksgiving football game, it provides an opportunity for us to pause as a school community to consider how fortunate we are. For me, it is chance to say thank you to your teachers and every adult who works with you each day.  They dedicate themselves to seeing that you reach your full potential and that you are prepared, when you leave us, to follow your dreams.

Don’t forget.

Many of us will gather tomorrow morning with family and friends to celebrate the outstanding accomplishments of our Blue Wave Football team.   The tremendous enthusiasm generated by this event is evidence of the pride we all feel about our school and our community.

We have seen this pride in our fall season with outstanding performances by all of our teams ending with FCIAC championships for Swimming and Diving and Field Hockey and a State Championship for our Blue Wave Swim and Dive team. Congratulations to all!

Our pride shone brightly in the amazing performance of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime.  Congratulations to the entire cast and crew and thank you for expanding our understanding of how differences should be celebrated.

Temporary stands at the stadium Turkey Bowl 2019

Two of the temporary stands had arrived at DHS Stadium by last Monday, Nov. 18.

When you attend an event like this, remember that you represent your school and your community.  The young children who will be there look up to you as role models and we expect that you will be the examples they seek.

Tomorrow, we ask that you bring a Thanksgiving spirit of gratitude to the game.  We all have so much to be thankful for and this is a day set aside to recognize the gifts that enrich our lives.

I feel blessed to be your principal and I look forward to seeing you there and together cheering on our undefeated Blue Wave Football Team.  Make us all proud of you.  I wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving.
