Window Broken, Purse Stolen from SUV Sunday Afternoon in Darien YMCA Parking Lot

A window was smashed and a purse containing a checkbook and credit cards was stolen from the center console of an SUV parked Sunday afternoon at the Darien YMCA, police were told. The victim told police she had parked her gray 2012 Toyota Sienna in the lot at the Y from 1 to 4 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 5. When she returned, she found the front passenger’s side window broken out. The purse, valued at $350, was missing.

A window of an SUV was smashed and a tote bag with cash in it was stolen Sunday evening in the middle of a restaurant’s parking lot on the Post Road. The victim told police that she parked her 2017 Toyota Sienna in the lot of Bertucci’s Restaurant at 54 Post Road at about 6 p.m., had dinner and returned at about 8:49 p.m.

She found the front, passenger-side window had been smashed and the tote bag on the front seat was gone. The glove box was opened, as well. In the tote bag: a passport, house keys, various bank cards, an iPad mini, a check book and $300 in Canadian currency worth about $234 in U.S. dollars (with the current exchange rate of $1 Canadian dollar to 78 U.S. cents). No other vehicles in the lot were broken into.

After a 26-year-old woman drove her 2014 BMW 528xi to BMW of Darien for a scheduled service, she remembered that she’d had $1,000 in a compartment to the left of the steering wheel. Now all she’s got (besides her BMW) are the memories. Darien police described what they were told happened:

The Stamford resident brought the car into the BMW of Darien dealership at 140 Ledge Road Wednesday, Feb. 7 for scheduled service. When she returned later that day to pick up the car, she saw the interior had been cleaned.
