Police: Woman, 23, Caught Burglarizing Home on Brush Island Road

When Darien police went to a house on Brush Island Road after a report that a car alarm had gone off, they found a 23-year-old woman in the garage with knives in her pockets, police said. According to police: The woman said she was visiting a friend, but no one was home, and police later concluded the statement was a lie; she also told police she had forgotten her own last name, then refused to talk to police when she was at the scene. Darien police are advising the public that it’s becoming more frequent for thieves who check to see if vehicles are unlocked to also check to see if a house is unlocked. It happened around Christmas on Fairfield Avenue, in a theft that led to the arrest of a 17-year-old Norwalk boy, and homes were entered twice overnight from Wednesday to Thursday, Jan. 9 to 10. Teenagers involved in these thefts and attempts at stealing can often be involved in more serious crimes elsewhere, the statement said. A purse containing bank credit cards, $50 in cash and a checkbook was stolen from inside a car parked in a garage, and a laptop on a desk was also taken from a home on Fairfield Avenue where two exterior doors had been left unlocked, police were told.
