Report: 60 Going to Boston Stranded at 2:30 AM in Darien by Bus Driver

A bus driver on Interstate 95 driving to Boston with about 60 passengers suddenly told them he was tired and needed to sleep — so he dropped them off on West Avenue by the Darien Railroad Station and drove off, Darien police said. It was 2:30 a.m. Wednesday when Darien police officers came across the crowd, which included elderly people and adolescents. No train would stop at the station for a few more hours. Here’s the Darien police news release about the incident:
On Sept. 28 at approximately 2:30 a.m., officers working the overnight shift came across an unusual situation in the downtown Darien area. 
At that time approximately 60 people were located on West Avenue near the Post Road.

Wallet Reported Stolen from Goodwives River Rd Home

A woman told police that a wallet was taken from her purse sometime in the final days of July while she was at a home on Goodwives River Road. Then charges totaling $289.63  were made to her debit card, the woman told police. The wallet contained her driver’s license, the debit card, gift cards and her checkbook. She last opened her wallet to write a check on Wednesday, July 29 at 4 p.m. She reported the wallet stolen at 8 a.m. on Friday, July 31.

Police: Man Disrupts Towing of a Car, Gets Charged with Breach of Peace

A 37-year-old resident of Allen O’Neill Drive tried to prevent a tow truck driver from towing away a car on July 31 and was arrested for breach of peace, Darien police said. Police gave this account (an accusation not proven in court):

At 1:52 p.m., police received a call from someone telling them a fight was in progress on the street. No one was charged with actually fighting, but the confrontation was physical. A tow truck driver had been called by management at the Heights affordable housing project to remove an unregistered vehicle that had been parked there. The vehicle belonged to a friend of the girlfriend of Carlos Torres of 14 Allen O’Neill Dr.

In order to stop the 2000 Mitsubishi Gallant from being towed, Torres stood between the car and the tow truck, yelling at the truck operator.

Police: Two Women Fight in a Home on Patricia Lane

Two women, one in her 50s, the other in her 60s, tussled at a home on Patricia Lane on Saturday, July 25. When one called police, both wound up being charged. Darien police gave this account (consisting of accusations not proven in court) of the incident:

At 9:45 a.m., police were called. When they arrived at the home, one of the women, a 60-year-old Rowayton resident, told police that the other (a 57-year-old Darien resident) had asked to borrow $65 for a medical bill. The Rowayton woman said that when she refused to give the money, an argument began, and at one point the 60-year-old tried to leave the house, but the Darien woman had her car keys and wouldn’t give them to her. The Darien woman denied having kept the keys.

Box with $140K in Silverware, Jewelry Reported Stolen During Move into Darien

When a husband and wife moved into Avalon Darien apartments last week, they found that a box was missing that contained $140,000 in family heirlooms and other items.

The couple, both in their 30s, reported the missing property to Darien police last Friday morning, July 24. Police say they were t0ld these other details of the incident:

In the box were various items of jewelry, silverware and expensive handbags. Some of the items were consided family heirlooms.

A moving company based in New York state had three employees and a day laborer packed and loaded boxes into a truck for the couple the day before. The truck was parked overnight in a warehouse, but no items were unloaded. When the couple moved in to Avalon Darien at 137 Hollow Tree Ridge Road and were unpacking boxes, they realized the items were missing.
