When a husband and wife moved into Avalon Darien apartments last week, they found that a box was missing that contained $140,000 in family heirlooms and other items.

The couple, both in their 30s, reported the missing property to Darien police last Friday morning, July 24.

Police say they were t0ld these other details of the incident:

In the box were various items of jewelry, silverware and expensive handbags. Some of the items were consided family heirlooms.

A moving company based in New York state had three employees and a day laborer packed and loaded boxes into a truck for the couple the day before. The truck was parked overnight in a warehouse, but no items were unloaded.

When the couple moved in to Avalon Darien at 137 Hollow Tree Ridge Road and were unpacking boxes, they realized the items were missing.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
