DHS Band Performs in Nashville; Young Composers Concert Performed at High School

The Darien High School Band took a trip to Nashville several weeks ago to perform, attend a master class and visit some sites important in American musical history. The Darien High School Band, under the direction of Mr. Jonathan Grauer, traveled to Nashville on April 4 to 7. The Band students participated in a musical exchange with students at Cane Ridge High School. Each school band performed for each other and then performed a combined selection.

The Darien Public Schools Music Department is proud to announce that 24 outstanding musicians from Darien High School have been chosen through a highly competitive audition process to perform at the Connecticut Music Educators Association Western Region Music Festival. — an announcement from the Darien Public Schools Music Department

The honors music festival will take place at the Darien High School Auditorium on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 11 to 12. The students will have the privilege of working in Band, Orchestra, Chorus, and Jazz ensembles with some of Connecticut’s most accomplished high school musicians conducted by nationally renowned conductors and educators. “The students chosen for participation in the Connecticut Western Region Music Festival have consistently worked and studied over several years to develop their musical skills and been chosen as among the finest high school musicians in Western Connecticut,” said Richard Sadlon, director of music for the school district.

Darien High School Band members will stand out in the cold early next Tuesday morning, Nov. 20 to collect turkeys for families who need some help getting food for Thanksgiving this year, and they’re asking for your help. From 7 to 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 20, band members will be at the bus loop and at the gymnasium entrance at Darien High School. They’ll be there to collect fresh and frozen turkeys, along with cans or packages for side dishes — stuffing, corn and mashed potatoes.
