Monica McNally Gets GOP Nomination to Fill Soon-To-Be Vacant Seat on Board of Selectman

The Darien Republican Town Committee announced Thursday that it has nominated Representative Town Meeting member Monica McNally to fill the seat on the Board of Selectmen being vacated by Christa McNamara, who will become town clerk. “I would like to thank the Republican Town Committee for their support in nominating me,” McNally said in an announcement from the committee. “I am honored to be considered for the open seat on the Board of Selectmen and I look forward to interviewing for this position with the board in the near future.”

The GOP town committee interviewed and confirmed McNally in a special meeting on May 24. “Throughout their years of service to the people of Darien, Monica and Christa have each shown themselves to be thoughtful, hardworking, competent and collaborative,” said Alexander Davidson, the RTC chairman. The Board of Selectmen gets first crack at appointing its fifth member.

Selectman Christa McNamara Named Town Clerk, Starts June 1

Christa McNamara, a Republican member of the Board of Selectman, was appointed Monday night to the vacant position of Town Clerk from June 1, 2021 through Jan. 3, 2022. The position has been vacant since Caryn Diller’s death on Nov. 14, 2020 from glioblastoma, a type of brain cancer. The board’s vote was 4 to 0 in favor, with McNamara abstaining.

I am writing in support of Christa McNamara who is a Republican running for a spot on the Board of Selectmen. I met Christa when our daughters became best friends in nursery school. I have been in and out of the McNamara home for 14 years. Christa and I both grew up in Rye, New York and our families have known each other for over 40 years. I watched this dynamic woman raise three children at the same time that she rolled up her sleeves and worked hard to improve our community.
