Town Tax Assessor: With More Info, Overall Minor Valuation Changes, Expect Fewer Tax Assessment Appeals

Darien Tax Assessor Anthony Homicki expects a smaller number of taxpayers will want to appeal their tax assessments this year, in part because the assessments didn’t change much, overall, and in part because the town is making more information comparison available to taxpayers. Those were some of the points Homicki made in a recent presentation to the Board of Selectmen last week about this year’s revaluation. The same day, Homicki’s office mailed out 6,500 letters to property owners with their revaluation information. Individual assessments will be used when the town calculates future tax bills, based on upcoming tax rates.

Darien Chamber Invites Business Owners to Town Assessor’s Presentation on Commercial Tax Assessments

The Darien Chamber of Commerce is inviting all local business owners to attend a presentation given by Darien’s tax assessor on the property revaluation process that determines how taxes will be assessed on property.

— an announcement from the Darien Chamber of Commerce

Cities and towns in Connecticut are mandated by the state to revalue all real property every five years to insure uniformity in real property values, since changing market conditions can otherwise create inequities. This revaluation will be important to all business owners in Darien, not just commercial property owners, so it’s a good idea for Darien businesses to understand it. Tax Assessor Anthony J. Homicki will give a presentation on how the Assessor’s Office will be implementing commercial assessments. The presentation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9:15 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 5  at Darien Town Hall in Room 206; the presentation is free and open to the public.
